About the Book

It was my husband who came up with the name of Reuben Canyon. "Because," he said, "Reuben is a turbulent water." For some reason he was intrigued with what was shaping into a story of a flock of sheep encountering a storm and in need of rescue. For that reason, the original title for this book was Reuben Canyon Rescue. Later, I would be convicted to adjust the title to Reuben Canyon Rising. As you read this story of the Canaan Sheep dog, Shebet, and the herd, you will read of their struggle to continue on the path set out for them in the face of immense loss. With support and encouragement from their friends, they are able to get to higher ground and lush, green pasture. We, too, must go forward when faced with hardships. Not only do we have companions to carry us along, we also have The Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, to be with us every step along the way.Although I do not go into great detail, I do state that the husbandman has passed from earth to heaven. He is described as being a faithful steward taking dominion over the animals and the land. He had prepared for the journey that he was getting ready to make with the flock. He walked daily with his LORD as is evident by the The Twenty Third Psalm card that he recited from daily. He, too, rose to higher ground. The scripture referenced is, "Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee."1 Preparing for that higher place takes effort. It takes time with God, in His word, and in His presence. The husbandman, when called, was ready for that ascent. The greatest and most important ascension is that of Jesus of Nazareth. He rose from the tomb three days after His death and burial. He too left companions behind who had missions to complete. He left them with the commandment, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."2 It is because Jesus sits at the right hand of His Father in Heaven that we are able to go through the trials of this world. He, Jesus, is that Good Shepherd who describes himself as, "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. "3 He is with us in the valleys. He gives us rest and water. He comforts us, anoints our head, and prepares an eternal dwelling for us. It is because He rose from and conquered death that we have The Hope that is the faith which sustains us through the shadows that try to overcome us.May this story of Shebet and the flock encourage you on your personal daily path. Trust in Jesus to be there with you with every step. He is real and ever present in your life. May you also find ways to be a friend who shows up with a hug and helping hand for others as they go through their own life events. Finally, may this story show you the value of continually seeking to go to higher ground. Let us all strive to one day hear Jesus say, "Well done, good and faithful servant..."4 My love, Marion1.Luke 14:10b2.Matthew 28:19-203.John 10: 14-154.Matthew 25:23a
