About the Book

THE RETICENT WITCH COMES OF AGE
THE KINDEST, CARING AND MOST DANGEROUS WOMAN YOU WILL EVER MEET
Short SynopsisThe Reticent Witch is the Story of Catherine Antoinette Heely, (Cathy) a modern-day Witch; a girl born with powers she would rather not have. From a very young age, Cathy struggles with her so-called gifts.Aware that she is different, Cathy is teased and bullied at school; something that will shape her in later life.Always trying to keep her powers secret and at the same time trying to discreetly use them for the good of others, Cathy is in emotional turmoil as the true extent and magnitude of her powers unfolds.Cathy's Story charts her coming of age, as she grapples with her sexuality, her powers, temper and her love of sarcasm. All that Cathy seeks is love and romance, to live a quiet life at one with nature.Unfortunately, Cathy has been carefully engineered over hundreds of years, by selective breeding, her creator 'The Darkness, ' as she calls him, constantly torments her thoughts. The voice in her head continually seeking to coerce her into acts of evil. The Darkness has plans for Cathy. Cathy resists his calls, but as well as her tormentor, The Darkness is also her protector. When Cathy finds herself in danger, The Darkness takes control, with horrific consequences for those who would seek to harm her.Cathy's first line of defence is the use of quite cutting sarcasm; a trait that usually leads to an escalation of situations rather than a diffusing of them. This, in turn, leaves her vulnerable to suggestion from The Darkness as she finds herself in potentially dangerous situations.Cathy knows that she does enjoy punishing those who stand against her, regardless of who they are. Often Cathy is racked with guilt after lashing out in anger, the emotional turmoil she experiences is tangible, and you have to ask yourself; What would I do with such powers? We'd all like to believe we would do the right thing, but would we?Cathy tries her best to hide away from the world. Still, she does manage to fall in love, in doing, so she exposes herself to the world. Her hatred of bullies, her short temper and desire for immediate, irreversible retribution leads to a string of events that propel her towards the grasp of The Darkness. As the afflicted and the dead mount in her wake, Cathy finds herself becoming a person of interest to the police.Even through all of this, Cathy's meeting with an investigative journalist sees her using her powers to help others, even though it risks exposing her.As Cathy fights off revenge plots and the continuing calls of The Darkness, she seeks council through her black mirror scrying sessions with an angel named Madimi.Cathy wonders if Madimi is who she says she is, or perhaps a demon in disguise, but Madimi does manage to keep Cathy sane at least. Though she openly encourages Cathy to embrace her powers in the pursuit of justice. Can Cathy resist the calls of The Darkness, her demon within? Will she find the love she craves? Will she ultimately receive absolution? Can she manage and control her demons? Or will she find her soul damned for all eternity?GenreThe story is a cross-genre affair, it has aspects of romance, thriller and horror, it explores the metaphysical aspects of good v evil, and really does have a little something for everyone. It's a YA coming of age, it's a revenge story, a love story and even a little of a who done it! The book is a real page-turner, it is fast-paced and although it is the second book in the series 'When Darkness Calls' it can be read as a standalone.Should you feel that you might be interested in book 1 (Sold Out Soul Doubt) and its conclusion book 3 (Sold Out Too) then you might want to read The Reticent Witch first as it gives some background to some of the characters in books 1 & 3.The story came about as I had several readers of Sold Out Soul Doubt who asked to know more about Cathy.
