In The Rescue, Snowy and Minty have discovered a mysterious note attached to Snowy's new telescope. Goldie left it on the lens after she and several other children were adopted by German telescope maker Heinrich von Brock. But this adoption is just a ruse for enlisting child labor for his factory in Bonn, Germany. To save Goldie and the others, Snowy and Minty set sail on their specially equipped ship, the Gillfish 2. While on the North Sea, a dazzling comet lights the night sky. But they awake to panic as First Mate Carter warns of an iceberg, even though it's summer. While the girls travel by carriage, Carter sails around France, agreeing to meet in Bonn. While on their carriage journey, Snowy and Minty encounter an evil troll. But he's the least of their problems: there's also a war going on.
Tension between Count Raimondo Montecuccoli, aligned with the Habsburgs, and King Louis XIV of France, a Bourbon, has complicated travel behind enemy lines. The girls, armed with Snowy's scientific knowledge and Minty's culinary skills, press on despite the dangerous conditions, hoping it's not too late to rescue Goldie.
Meanwhile, the count is suspicious of von Brock, whose factory funds his greedy scheme to double cross Europe's leaders and abscond with a tidy profit. After doing some risky reconnaissance in Bonn, Snowy and Minty create elaborate disguises and enlist the aid of a motherly hotel maid. But time is running out.
The Rescue, Book 3 in the Minty, Snowy & Goldie Adventure Series, features a daring escape plan, tasty treats, creative ingenuity, and a scorching showdown.
