Sofern anhand der erhobenen Studienergebnisse nachgewiesen wird, dass sich Mitarbeiterführung bedingt durch die Distanz verändert hat, werden die konkreten Veränderungen und daraus resultierenden Herausforderungen sowie neuen Anforderungen dargestellt und erörtert. Im Speziellen wird untersucht, welches Verhalten, welche Rahmenbedingungen und Kompetenzen erforderlich sind, um die Führung von Mitarbeitern erfolgreich digital abzubilden. Im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit werden zunächst die theoretischen Grundlagen, der bisherige Forschungsstand und die daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse zu dem Thema "Remote Leadership" aus der vorhandenen Literatur zusammengefasst. Hierfür wird auf den Einfluss der Digitalisierung eingegangen sowie eine Abgrenzung zwischen virtuell verteilt arbeitenden und Homeoffice Teams vorgenommen. Zudem wird die bisherige Haltung zur Homeoffice Kultur in Deutschland sowie die durch die COVID-19 Pandemie erzwungene Umstellung zur Arbeit im Homeoffice thematisiert. Darauf aufbauend wird der Begriff der Führung erörtert und das virtuelle Führungskonzept ausführlich dargestellt. Die sich daraus ergebenden Herausforderungen und neuen Rollenbilder von Führungskräften folgen im Anschluss. Abschließend werden die vier zentralen Führungsvariablen, die bereits in Kapitel 1.2 genannt werden, theoretisch abgebildet. Der zweite Teil der Ausarbeitung dokumentiert die empirische Untersuchung.
