PRÓLOGO: LA POESÍA ES SU RELIGIÓN

Creo en la inspiración; creo en el poder supremo de la poesía. Las palabras lo pueden todo. Ellas son capaces de crear universos de la nada, también pueden destruirlos en un instante. Existen las palabras que viven presas en sus significados más comunes, y existen las palabras que son sinónimos de libertad. Fundamentalmente nos estamos refiriendo a los propósitos del escritor. Podemos utilizar las palabras como simples herramientas que dan forma a nuestro oficio; también podríamos privilegiar la intrínseca belleza de esas palabras para adentrarnos en el mundo del arte. El artesano limita, condensa palabras; el artista las redime, permite que fluyan libres. La poesía se encarga, en términos de Aristóteles, de todo aquello que "podría ser". Los límites no existen; en cualquier caso, dependerán exclusivamente de nosotros mismos.

La poesía es posibilidad infinita, eterna creación. Los poemas son cristales muy especiales que nos permiten vislumbrar lo que está al otro lado del significado. Un poema es ritmo, un poema es una ventana que te concede el privilegio de observar la belleza que da vida a todas las cosas. Un poema es una escalera que te conduce a las alturas máximas del lenguaje.

En el lenguaje común, en la prosa, lo único que importa es el significado. Las palabras existen en función de esa acepción específica que buscamos obtener. Hay que convencer de algo a alguien, a cualquier precio. Allí las letras yacen aprisionadas, condenadas a su amargo destino. En la poesía los vocablos vuelan libres, persiguen el ritmo en aras de alcanzar su original belleza. Las mismas palabras que son esclavas en un discurso, pueden vestirse de gloria cuando se transforman en poesía.

Un poema es tiempo arquetípico. Es perfección. Es el instante que vivimos ahora mismo y es el pasado; es el futuro y lo que jamás fue. Si bien es cierto que en los poemas encuentras nombres, personajes, historias, también es verdad que la belleza trasciende cualquier clase de frontera. La poesía nos pone en contacto con la esencia misma del ser humano; la poesía nos permite dejar atrás los límites propios de nuestra condición. Las palabras nunca mueren, ellas siguen siendo donde ya no hay nada más. Las palabras no necesitan que las recuerdes; no quieren que las acompañes a ningún lugar; no esperan de ti más que tu indiferencia. Podrías sorprenderlas, podrías devolverles su libertad.

Si escribes poesía, si admites que la poesía escriba por ti, las ideas se entrelazarán hasta deslumbrarte con su brillo. Reclamarán formas que ni siquiera imaginaste. Si confías en la inspiración, ella danzará para ti.

Podrías escribir pensando en los lindos ojos de esa mujer; tal vez tus palabras sean en honor a la libertad. A lo mejor escribes tratando de descifrar lo que es el amor; de pronto tu intención es versar alrededor de lo que simboliza el tiempo. La poesía siempre te asombrará con sus designios. Tú decides cuál será el trazo inicial en la pintura, tendrás que estar listo para escuchar las indicaciones que el color quiera hacerte. A veces el resultado final no es más que el comienzo.

Se convierten en poesía esas palabras que te atormentan el alma, eso que debes escribir para no morir. Si es poesía lo sientes en el corazón. Si es poesía es inspiración. Si los dioses hablan, la poesía es su religión.
