Eine Antwort auf diese Fragen bieten die These der Individualisierung, Privatisierung und Subjektivierung, welche in dem Artikel "Individualisierung, Privatisierung und Subjektivierung" von Hubert Knoblauch erläutert werden. Dieser Artikel soll als Leitfaden für diese Hausarbeit dienen. Er konstituiert in diesem einen Ortswechsel der Religion aus den Kirchen heraus in die private Lebenswelt der Menschen hinein, ohne einen starken Bezug zur Tradition oder Institution, welcher durch die Prozesse der Individualisierung, Privatisierung und Subjektivierung bedingt ist. Der Fokus in dieser Hausarbeit liegt nicht auf der Individualisierungsthese an sich, sondern diese Hausarbeit analysiert den Referenztext. Dabei wird seine Argumentationsstruktur analysiert und es wird auf seine Thesen, Querverweise und mögliche Gegenargumente eingegangen. Dabei orientiert sich die Hausarbeit am Aufbau des Referenztextes, um Sprünge im Text zu vermeiden. Zunächst wird der Begriff der Individualisierung definiert, da dieser nicht spezifisch für die Religionssoziologie ist. Anschließend wird die Individualisierungsthese dargelegt und auf die Kritik der Individualisierungsthese eingegangen, wobei nicht alle Facetten der Individualisierungsthese aufgezeigt werden.
