Una historia sobre la Reforma de carácter divulgativo con el propósito de que el lector no versado en el tema pueda alcanzar en pocas páginas una perspectiva general del qué, el porqué y el para qué de este acontecimiento trascendental al conmemorar sus 500 años.

De carácter breve, pero hábilmente trazada, proporciona al lector información suficiente de lo acaecido en Europa en el inicio de la Edad Moderna y su proyección en los siglos siguientes, sin lo cual resulta imposible explicar la historia de la configuración de los estados modernos europeos y, por extensión, la historia universal.

No pretende ser -como aclara el propio autor- una historia de la Reforma sino, más bien, una historia sobrela Reforma. No es una Historia en su sentido académico y científico. No pretende un registro de todos y cada uno de los hechos acaecidos. La información básica, pero tratada con absoluta rigurosidad y suficiente para aportar una visión global sobre qué fue la Reforma, por qué se produjo, qué supuso en el medio social en el que se produjo, y cuales fueron sus consecuencias a todos los niveles.

La obra, que cuenta con un prólogo de Mariano Blázquez Burgo, Secretario Ejecutivo de la Federación de Entidades Religiosas Evangélicas de España (FEREDE) se estructura en cinco partes:

La primera: EUROPA EN LOS SIGLOS XIV y XV, describe brevemente el entorno social, político y religioso y cultural en el cual se produjo la Reforma: el Humanismo y el Renacimiento, el Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico.

En la segunda: MARTÍN LUTERO, analiza el trasfondo biográfico del monje agustino y qué le llevo a redactar sus 95 Tesis. Como consiguió eludir el riesgo y triste el final de sus predecesores gracias a ambiente político de intereses contrapuestos y de tensiones internas que protegió su actividad; y un pueblo llano cansado de normas y de señores feudales, que pese a su obligado analfabetismo y estaba deseoso de liberación y pugnaba por vindicar la identidad nacional.

La tercera: CONSOLIDACIÓN DE LA REFORMA, explica la Reforma en si misma y su proyección más allá de las fronteras de Alemania. El resurgimiento de la Reforma Radical, cuyas raíces que venía ya de lejos florecieron impulsadas por la Reforma luterana; y la Iglesia de Inglaterra.

La cuarta: CONSOLIDACION DE LA REFORMA, describe las consecuencias. La Contrarreforma católica; la configuración de los nuevos estados protestantes; y las aportaciones de la Reforma tanto en el aspecto teológico como social, haciéndose eco de manera objetiva tanto de los aspectos positivos como negativos.

La quinta y última parte la dedica a: LA REFORMA EN ESPAÑA, recordando cómo el brote de la Reforma del siglo xvi, que en España fue ahogado en sangre, tuvo que esperar hasta el segundo tercio del siglo xix, cuando aprovechando un esbozo político de libertad lograron consolidarse las primeras Iglesias reformadas.
