La Reforma española y la influencia de la gente involucrada no se redujo al siglo XVI, sino que pervivió en siglos posteriores llegando hasta nuestros días.

En el año del 500 Aniversario de la Reforma, los libros que se han publicado sobre el tema son muchos. ¿Se trata de uno más? No, ésta es una obra de características muy distintas.

Por su ámbito: se centra en la Reforma en España. Su tesis es que a pesar de haber sido ferozmente restringida por la Inquisición, la Reforma floreció con vigor en España y mantuvo una continuidad en tiempo y espacio, aunque a nivel social, político, aunque siga siendo a día de hoy algo desconocida por muchos en nuestro país. Pero su origen está históricamente documentado desde el siglo XVI. Los Reformadores españoles fueron una fuerza vital y productiva en la Reforma europea junto a los grandes reformadores europeos; y aunque los convertidos a la fe evangélica eran pocos respecto a la población total de España, muchos fueron personajes influyentes en el campo de la religión y la cultura, predicadores, y escritores de renombre.

Por lo peculiar de su enfoque: Defiende que la Reforma en España registraría muy pronto la influencia del anabautismo y de las Iglesias Libres, dando lugar a una Reforma evangélica de carácter más radical, que ha mantenido su continuidad ininterrumpidamente desde el siglo xvi hasta el día de hoy.

Se trata, sin lugar a dudas, del análisis académico más amplio, serio y documentado que se haya escrito sobre la Reforma en España y los orígenes del movimiento evangélico en el país.

La primera parte del libro hace un análisis historiográfico general de la Reforma que abarca desde el siglo xvi al xxi, tanto de autores españoles como extranjeros. Por si sólo, un estudio de extraordinario valor documental.

En una segunda parte expone la etapa inicial de espíritu reformador español donde se entremezclaba el alumbradismo (netamente español), el erasmismo y el luteranismo, sin que ni siquiera la Inquisición entreviera situaciones problemáticas. Hubieron de pasar unos años para que el Santo Oficio dejara de confundir de manera tan burda a iluminados y protestantes. En su análisis distingue claramente entre alumbrados y protestantes, estos últimos siempre defensores del cristocentrismo y del apoyo en la Biblia.

En la tercera parte, ofrece un bosquejo histórico detallado de la Reforma española en los siglos xvi, xvii y xviii con sus figuras más descollantes.

Y en la cuarta parte un detenido y minucioso recorrido para mostrar la pauta de los principios básicos de la Reforma evangélica de España, tal y como se muestra a través de los escritos de nuestros autores protestantes del gran siglo xvi español: Juan de Valdés, Francisco de Enzinas, Constantino Pérez de la Fuente, Juan Pérez de Pineda, Antonio del Corro, Casiodoro de Reina, Cipriano de Valera.

Finalmente, en el apartado de conclusiones, demuestra como movimiento evangélico español iniciado ya en el siglo xvi se mantuvo en las centurias siguientes hasta poderse empezar a expresar en libertad en el siglo xix.
