About the Book

Reflections of Living is a natural follow up to the previously published accompaniment reader, Always Mindful of Him. It contains poems, wit, and short discourse that were written at various junctures of the author's life, stored away, and kept for just such a time as this. New beginnings and blessings, disillusionment and disappointment, are background inspiration for its prose and verse and give rise to various forms of the writer's expression, and outcry at life in the fast lane (otherwise known as reals Ville.) All attempts to put a face on or give voice to life's joys and quandaries are under-girded with the persuasive truth of the Holy Writ of Scripture and the uniquely Christian hope of Jehovah's personal love and concern for each one. Reflections of Living in divers and sundry ways contains honest and unapologetic comment on Christian truth as the author understands it. There is no agenda other than driving an interest in the Word of God, both the written (the Christian Scriptures or Bible) and the manifested (Jesus Christ of Nazareth.) Hopefully within the confines of its pages, one will find substance, sustenance, and enjoyment. It is my hope, (author Rick Cox) that something good will find rest in the reader along the way which will carry forth long beyond the last chapters. We Christians ride on winged horses of joy that never abandon the road of truth and reality, for our God is true and real. Years ago an artist recorded a song the last lines of which are, "I'm gonna leave whatever's left of my luck to the losers, and then bend down, and kiss the world goodbye." Foremost may I hope to be excused from any accusation of holding a pact or slightest acclaim toward the tragic nirvana of suicide which might be read into the above listed lyrics. I post it rather as an amusing foil in order to disavow as a Christian believer, the concept of luck. Odds are something else again, since they are a part of mathematics which occupy a high pedestal God's creation. The 'leaving' concept in the song is another matter for comment, for since I I am a mortal vessel, sliding down the south side of the mountain of life; before I metaphysically kiss the world goodbye, I should like to communicate something of value, re. Reflections of Living, to my fellow sojourners. I profess no privileged corner of truth, having only glimpsed modicums of it along the edges, but that does not stop me from seeking it and hopefully knowing it - or being assured of it - when I find it. Or said more correctly, when it finds me. And so then, "Brother stop that bawling, the day will soon be falling, on those nighttime shadows on the trail." Reflections of Living: how comforting that, "The word from heaven penned long ago;, how perfect it does rhyme. A melody for you and me, a love song stamped in time." Enjoy.
