About the Book

About the Book

It costs nothing but means everything. Practice kindness.

'The world is full of kind people.
If you can't find one, be one.

Kindness costs nothing, but its value is priceless.

As a researcher and instructional designer, Dr. Gaviola-Feck or Dr. Gavi, looked for a missing, yet obvious, element of suicide prevention - relational connection. What relational connection could bridge the gap between a crisis interventionist and a person in crisis? Kindness.
'The BE KIND Model' was initially developed as a curriculum to address the unique challenges in communication dialogue with those who are struggling with daily challenges that have led to the most extreme and damaging crisis: suicide. The relational approach with a spiritual perspective from scripture was the motivator for writing this book. It has been said, "If you want a new idea, check out old books." The Bible is considered an archaeological, historical, and spiritual source. This book entails the process in how the curriculum was designed and the spiritual perspective from the Bible that supported its concepts.
As a researcher and instructional designer, Dr. Gavi knew we can never eliminate suicide ideation through training; however, we can minimize the ideas of suicide through kindness. When seeds of suicide enter the mind, a person experiencing extreme stress can feel there is no other way out of their emotional, mental, physical, psychological, and/or spiritual pain but to choose death.
As a crisis interventionist, your kindness may provide a place of safety (resiliency, recovery, referral). The crisis intervention strategy is to Think 3-2-1. By learning this simple, relational approach, you will discover effective ways to deescalate someone from an extreme crisis to a manageable crisis. When a person in crisis owns their solutions and next steps, there is hope and a place of safety.
