About the Book

For many years The Red Lodge Community has been a gathering place for families in Amelia, Virginia. The history of the predominately African American Community extends back to the late 1700's when it was known as the Red Lodge Plantation. This is a story of families whose ancestors were owned by Major John Archer and his son Senator William S. Archer and neighboring slave owners. From the ancestors bondage of slavery, to later the fight of freedom and land ownership, the community of Red Lodge stands strong. This is the story of those who sacrificed what little they had to build churches, farms, and owned stores, later becoming the foundation of the community that is still present to this day. Down through the years, the name of the area has changed. Some call it Tyler's, others call it Archers Creek, but to those countless of African Americans who are the offspring of the forefathers of the land. We call it Red Lodge. There are many descendants from the Red Lodge Plantation, take a look inside you may find out that you are one of them.
About the Author: For the past several years, I have been researching my heritage and retracing the foot steps of where my ancestors once stood. Through this journey, I have traveled throughout Virginia and North Carolina. On January 8, 2015 I was featured in the Sanford Herald a newspaper company in Sanford, NC using my research in efforts to stand up against Coal Ash Dumping in a African American Community where my family resides and where my ancestors are buried. During this journey of research, I was able to help other families come together that have been separated through time. This is my second completed book which is really in essence just the start to a lifetime work.
