Tras las lecturas acerca de la comunidad judía de Argentina durante la dictadura militar, guardaba una sensación extraña. Las investigaciones venían a confirmar -cuando no a repetir- aquello que fuera testimoniado por Jacobo Timerman en su libro Prisionero sin nombre, celda sin número: una condena de la dirigencia comunitaria local, el carácter antisemita del régimen y el trato dado a los "judíos" detenidos por los grupos de tareas que operaban bajo la tutela del aparato represivo.
¿Cómo abordar un pasado tan consagrado? El relevamiento documental para este trabajo evidenció que la centralidad de los derechos humanos no permitió problematizar otros aspectos de la experiencia de los judíos durante el período. Pero acaso, ¿no estaría banalizando el signo más atroz de aquellos tiempos concentracionarios cuya materialización fue la detención-desaparición de personas? Este libro pretende dar cuenta de la centralidad de aquella experiencia sin menospreciar otras problemáticas frente a las cuales los actores debieron posicionarse.

Emmanuel Nicolás Kahan es Doctor en Historia y Magister en Historia y Memoria por la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Es investigador del CONICET con sede en el Instituto de Investigaciones en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Ha publicado los libros Unos pocos peligros sensatos. La Dirección de Inteligencia de la Policía de la Provincia de Buenos Aires frente a las instituciones judías de la ciudad de La Plata (Editorial de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, 2009) y en coautoría Marginados y consagrados. Nuevos Estudios sobre la vida judía en Argentina (Lumiere, 2011).
