About the Book

Rebecca, her friends, and her father, William, accompany Margie Johnson to her home in Minnesota. They had been asked to help her sort, pack, and move back to Fremont to live with her sister, Annie Owens, Rebecca's neighbor. During the flight to Denver, Margie invites Rebecca to search for hidden compartments in an antique secretary her husband Ben had purchased shortly before his death.Upon arrival at Margie's home, the group is quickly engaged in the task of sorting and packing. By the end of the day, they managed to make their way to the back of the garage where the lofty, secretary had stood for the past three years. Rebecca wanted to begin examining the masterpiece immediately, but the hour was late, and they were all very tired. However, when Margie informed Rebecca, her father, and the others, of the potential value of the desk, interest was piqued. The crew settled around William as he searched the internet via his laptop.Unbeknownst to Margie, her realtor had told several people of the beautiful antiques that Margie owned and would be selling at a yard sale prior to her move. The realtor had given the impression that Margie could be enticed to sell some valuable pieces that she planned to keep. Word spread and during the first night of their stay at Margie's, Rebecca noticed would-be burglars prowling around Margie's garage, as she peered out the upstairs window. The police were summoned, a shot was fired by one of the perpetrators, and the hunt was on. The police caught the perps shortly thereafter. Rather than take all the blame for their actions, they related a complicated set of events that resulted in their attempt to steal Margie's antiques. With the help of police officers on patrol, and the teamwork of Rebecca and her friends, Margie's antiques were safe from another attempted burglary. Margie held her sale early in the morning on the scheduled day and quickly sold out. They were enabled to start the trip to Fremont a day ahead of schedule. The road trip was exhausting and filled with some fun, and some not-so-fun experiences. The blooming romances between Rebecca and Lucas, and Adam and Carrie, continue to deepen. The kids think they are hiding their feelings very well from their parents, but Margie informs Rebecca that their parents already know. Rebecca is stymied because she thought they had all been so careful.Upon arriving home to Fremont, the masterpiece is unloaded into the Bridgeses' garage. Rebecca begins immediately to try and find a hidden compartment before going to bed. Her parents join the search and what they find will change Margie's life forever!
