About the Book

Reality in Paradox is my fourth science fiction anthology. What Would Have Happened If... is the story of two staff personnel, Mike Kane and Greg Parnell, on a top secret time travel project located deep in the Alaskan Wilderness. They break the rules to take a private trip back to Deadwood City, SD to witness the murder of Wild Bill Hickok; however, they provide a distraction for Jack McCall, Hickok's killer, and Hickok ends up killing McCall. This causes a major alteration in history so they return to Deadwood to try to repair the glitch they created. McCall fails to show up so Kane kills Hickok to repair history as much as possible but Kane himself is killed. Meanwhile, McCall shows up at their Alaskan base and two military operatives are dispatched to Deadwood to once again try and deal with Hickok's murder. Lost Reality tells of Lauren Kendrick, a female time capsule pilot, who takes an unauthorized trip back to 1937 to rescue her heroine, Amelia Earhart, and Fred Noonan. Lauren subscribes to the theory that they landed on a specific atoll in the Pacific and she is right. She locates them and brings them back to present day Seattle. Her employers are none too pleased and decide to send Earhart and Noonan to Howland Island, their original destination. But history is not quite as it seems and Kendrick and another pilot go back to Howland Island. They never return nad history becomes totally altered beyond recognition. Dream Lover is about Ella Fields who arranges her own disappearance to lose an unwanted boyfriend. But did she disappear in this reality or an alternate reality? Unintended Consequences, Part I documents a scientist, Alan Westering, who built a time machine and, together with, Chuck Maitland, an expert in Eastern European languages, goes back to Sarajevo on June 28, 1914 to prevent the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and stop World War I from happening. But they return to a world much worse than the one they sought to change. They return to Sarajevo to restore history to its original progression but to do this they have to meet themselves to stop their historical alteration. There are now two versions of Alan and Chuck but only one set of them can return to the present. The other set will have to remain in 1914. They toss a coin to see which set will go home and which will stay.Unintended Consequences, Part II, chronicles the adventures of the Alan who remains in 1914. He gets another chance to change the future creating yet another version of himself. A Loser Lost is a story about Jason Collins who wants to change history and stop himself from taking part in a bank robbery in his younger day. A hypnotist sends him back to the day of the robbery twice to re-arrange history to erase his participation in the hold up. Two attempts fail. On the third try his younger self is killed thereby blinking out his future existence from that point on. Your Cheartin' Heart is about Jerry and Eileen Jensen who somehow slip through a time warp and show up at their house some 50 years in the future. The occupants allow hen to spend the night but in the morning they wake up back in their house in their own era. That afternoon a stranger appears at the front door and warns Eileen not to attend a teachers conference later on that year. When she does go, the insanely jealous Jerry hires a private detective to follow her because he is always suspecting her of cheating. We learn in the end that the stranger at the door was Eileen's son and she lived in that future version of her house with two subsequent husbands but the visit of her younger self and first husband never occurred in her older version's reality.....................
