About the Book

Many students enter the writing classroom terrified and expecting to perform poorly. For years, students have poured their hearts into their written work to suffer the cruel Grammarian's bloodbath with little to no reflection on their content. The result is student's shriveled confidence and their withdrawal from academic writing. But they must write and do so clearly. This book brings together several years of research presented at an Academic Forum at Harvard University as well as several other international teacher conferences that help students focus on offering their ideas successfully as well as help them to recognize and understand their affective responses to their projects. This book gives the emergent writer tools and the logic to present their thoughts and a pathway for the instructor to guide those ideas to increased clarity and precision.
About the Author: Alex Monceaux holds masters' degrees in English and Counseling & Human Development and is completing doctoral work in Educational Leadership with a focus on global educational leadership. He began teaching K-12 in 1999 and in 2006, began teaching Bridge (Pathways) ESOL students at Lamar University. Since then, he has taught academic writing for 12 years in the university setting to graduate students. Since 2014, he has taught basic composition to freshmen college students. Since 2013, he has provided more than 50 teacher training workshops and lectured in Chile, Costa Rica, France, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, and the UK. Alex is President of AELR Global, Editor in Chief, ELOD Publishing and in-coming co-chair for TESOL International's Materials Writer's Interest Section. AELR Global is a non-profit focusing on global education, language acquisition, and teacher association organizational development and sustenance. ELOD Publishing is a niche publishing company for educational, leadership, and organization development manuscripts. While he is not actively involved in a clinical setting, he uses his MEd - Human Development & Counseling in his work with international students to mitigate challenges faced transitioning into the US university setting in addition to serving Texas Counseling Association as the By-Laws Committee Co-Chair. Other than teaching and counseling, Alex enjoys researching, writing, a variety of areas involving Assessing Student Self-Regulation, Formative/Summative Assessments, and the Integration of the Affective Domain. Some of Alex's hobbies include hiking, travel, canoeing and rafting, and spending time with his family.
