Ci ritroveremo una pièce teatrale che sperimenta molteplici toni: dalle sinfonie romantiche, ai toni brillanti della comicità, sempre pronta a virare inaspettatamente verso il poetico, il surreale, l'onirico, con tutti i toni che sono propri della vita di tutti i tempi, di tutti i mondi, di tutti i ragazzini possibili. Perché la vita è una giostra, tonda e maestosa proprio come quel grande cerchio che troneggia ammiccante nei manifesti avveniristici del Kursaal di Ostia. E sulla giostra ci sali di slancio, con l'entusiasmo della prima corsa, ma anche con la paura di chi non sa quando avverrà l'ultimo giro. D'altronde la vita raramente è un hotel a cinque stelle - ma neanche a tre a pensarci bene -, la vita è come una pensione di periferia: ti ci arrabatti, ci fatichi, ci incontri i soliti avventori e - per non far problemi - cerchi pure di viverci assieme, ma in fondo non ti piace e se potessi cambieresti tutte le tovaglie e i tavolini e pure l'insegna, poi però ti rassegni, salvi il salvabile e ti ci adatti e basta. La vita troppo spesso la si sopravvive, sotto gli occhi buoni di un fraticello di borgata, che non si prende mai troppo sul serio ma che pure è sempre capace di donarti una buona parola, di trovarti una preghiera da recitare la sera. Certo, a volte anche lui regge poco e si ubriaca, forse perché persino lui non si capacita e non capisce fino in fondo e si sfoga parlando troppo, perché la parola lo si sa da secoli che salva la vita. Infatti, laddove non arriva la vita ci arriva l'arte e per un ogni dio che delude c'è sempre un artista pronto con tutti i fili in mano; per la sua opera è lui il grande puparo, quello che può reinventarsi la storia tante volte, tagliare il brutto e preferirvi il bello, trasformare in realtà tutti i sogni e trasfondere in un nuovo inizio ogni fine poco gradita. Perché la prima forma di arte è quella del raccontare e, attraverso mille storie, del raccontarsi a chiunque sia disposto a starti ad ascoltare. Un rondò amarcord in cui tutti gli uomini possono veder tradurre in paradigmatico l'individuale, innalzare fino al sublime il particolare e ripercorrere la più anonima delle vite come se fosse speciale. A cosa servirebbero sennò gli occhi di Risi o di Fellini e le pose di Totò o della Magnani e finanche le foto tenere e smaliziate di un'aspirante attrice che - brava o meno che sia - con la sua luce ti illumina le giornate? Perché l'arte è panacea, è miele sull'orlo della coppa, è rimedio dell'errore e perché non c'è attore più grande di quello che ridia vita a una stella, a quella stessa stella che la vita l'ha abbandonata prima ancora che essa potesse essere vissuta.
