It is the power of our faith that compels millions of us to gather at local worship sites on a weekly basis. It is the aftermath of a week of struggles, disappointments, exhausting challenges and spiritual battles of the week that make the church even more of a welcomed sight as well as a place of refuge, rest, and restoration. We enter the church doors with great anticipation. We view this as our time of relief as well as release. In 1st Peter 5:7, it says, "Casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you." Sunday service becomes our opportunity to take full advantage of this scripture. A time of liberation from the heavy burdens we've carried throughout the week. Now is our time to escape the overwhelming circumstances of our lives. However, we fail to realize that our faith must be lived out in our everyday experiences. For it is through the storms of life that faith is created and, at other times, enhanced. How many times have you found yourself rushing the week by in order to get to Sunday? Many people find themselves saying, "I can't wait to get to church to get a Word." Sunday has now become our medicine for whatever is ailing us. Soon, we find ourselves living for Sunday. At this point, some people are wondering how relevant this book is to their relationship with God. If your entire spiritual existence can be contained in a single, weekly worship service, then you are probably living for Sunday. If the totality of your faith can be reduced to the time spent inside of the four walls of a sanctuary, it is necessary for you to evaluate your relationship with God. This book was written to challenge you to "Quit Living for Sunday!" This title sets forth a quandary that is shared by many well-meaning, Sunday-go-to-church folk. These people are those who seek the power, presence, and manifestation of miracles, while they are gathered together in that sacred place. Many times, unfortunately, they fail to realize that these events can also occur on a one to one basis and outside of the church building. The key to this evolution transpiring is for a person to develop a one to one relationship with God. This takes more than a once a week or occasional visit to church, more than a half-hearted commitment to God's way of living. Therefore, it's necessary for us to change our thought process, which will lead to a change in our actions. Your new challenge is to live through Sunday! My purpose is to teach you that church is more than a Sunday activity. It is preparation for a Monday through Sunday responsibility. When we allow Sunday service, especially the preached Word of God, to become a shaping and refining tool, it gives us a greater chance of success. My endeavor is to change the way you view Sunday service. It is much greater than your opportunity to pour out your heart to God. The service must be more than a time to gather with other members or to hear some uplifting songs. You must focus on allowing God to fill your heart with His presence and His Word that will guide your life in the right direction. The Lord will manifest Himself every day of your life and in every area of your life. Then you won't have to live for Sunday, but every day will become a day of spiritual renewal.
