I cibi che vediamo sulle tavole degli antichi romani non erano molto diversi da quelli che noi poniamo sulle nostre, ad eccezione di quelli a noi giunti dopo la scoperta del nuovo mondo. Vediamo lo stesso desiderio di sistemare cibi appetitosi, diversi per tipologia perche gli ospiti, vedendoli, fossero particolarmente attratti e la loro golosita sollecitata e vediamo lo stesso desiderio di offrire una cena serena ad ospiti affiatati fra loro. Non mancavano, pero, semplicissime cene solitarie dove la solitudine influiva sicuramente anche sulla scelta dei cibi. L'attenta analisi nutrizionale di una studiosa di Scienza dell' alimentazione e la ricerca delle fonti antiche relative all' argomento alimentare da parte di un' archeologa ci introducono in un mondo fin' ora separato come campo di ricerca ma che offre, invece, spunti interessanti per una piu approfondita conoscenza di questo particolare settore del mondo antico: quello dell' alimentazione, non diverso dalla nostra cultura come viene dimostrato anche dal particolare e inaspettato apparato fotografico. Claudia Cerchiai Manodori Sagredo, archeologa e storica dell' arte greco-romana, gia Direttore coordinatore del Ministero per i beni e le attivita culturali. Ha seguito scavi archeologi a Roma e provincia e la sistemazione dei musei di Cassino, Civitavecchia e Palestrina. Ha curato i cataloghi della prima Giornata Mondiale dell' Alimentazione promossa dalla FAO nel 1987 e in particolare la mostra dedicata all' Alimentazione nel mondo antico. I Romani in eta imperiale. Ha poi pubblicato Cibi e banchetti nell' antica Roma edito dall' Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato nel 2004, Il vino nelle parole degli autori classici edito da CIRAAS-Provincia di Asti nel 2004, L' olivo e l' olio nelle pagine degli antichi autori edito da Bononia University Press nel 2009, Nettare di Dioniso. La vite e il vino attraverso le parole degli autori antichi edito da L' ERMA di BRETSCHNEIDER nel 2013. E' altresi autore di numerosi saggi di archeologia romana e storia dell' alimentazione nel mondo antico. Laura Di Renzo e Professore associato di Scienze e tecniche dietetiche applicate, presso il Dipartimento di Biomedica e Prevenzione, dell' Universita degli studi di Roma Tor Vergata. Esperta di nutrizione clinica, svolge le sue ricerche nel campo della genomica nutrizionale, per la prevenzione dell' obesita e malattie cronico degenerative non trasmissibili. Riveste incarichi istituzionali presso il Ministero delle Politiche Agricole, Alimentari, Forestali e del Turismo. Relatore in vari convegni e congressi su tematiche attinenti alla nutrizione umana.
