About the Book

Ten years after the incident on Dust, Max Cabot is smuggling families out from under the oppressive rule of a corrupt republic. Over that time, Max has ferried families with unauthorized children to sanctuary on the planet Maisha as he piloted a prototype ship with a unique capability - the ability to open a wormhole from any point in space and jump to any other point in explored space. Max has jumped in and out of systems, always one step ahead of his pursuers. Now, the Republic has finally caught up with Max. Senator Maria Cahill vowed to eliminate the lawlessness of those like Max after the incident on Dust took the life of her son. Maria championed the creation of a task force to root out those that sought to undermine the Republic. Questions arise as to whether her lust for revenge is clouding her judgement. Her only son was ripped away from her and she cannot let that go, but is she pursuing revenge at the expense of those she is supposed to serve? Maria eagerly awaits word from the task force that is closing in on Max and all of the refugee families. The newly promoted leader of that task force, Djimbe Akimbe, has infiltrated Max's operation. Akimbe seeks to root out the corruption that is eating away at the core of the Republic. Lawlessness must be stamped out. He must capture Max and capture unauthorized children like Hannah Cabot, the clone of Max's long dead daughter. Hannah exists outside the controls of the Republic. She is not tagged, scanned, an tracked like the other citizens of the Republic. In a Republic built on keeping watch over what every one of its citizens is doing at every moment, Hannah is an anomaly. She is invisible to the system, just as she is to her father. She sees how Max avoids her, how he won't look at her, and how he feels pain every moment she is around. Hannah is a ghost made flesh, a reminder of a painful tragedy in Max's past. Hannah and Max are forced to work together as the only escapees from the intense pursuit of the Republic. They are the outlaws that Maria and Akimbe want to stamp out of existence. Maria and Akimbe has one goal: capture the Guardian.
