About the Book

Every athlete harbors some level of mental challenges that directly affects their performance. The Psychology of Speed - Book III is a about the psychological influences that impact athletic speed, agility and quickness before, during and after any specific game, play or drill. It's the study of Sport and Exercise Psychology as it relates to the athlete, coach, trainer and parent. Many of the world's best athletes have benefited from the research and application that relates to their sport. This series examines the most common aspects that relates to the novice, mid-level, and professional athlete. It's a glimpse into the knowledge and research from hundreds of professionals. We then apply the psychological concepts to the Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) community, athlete, and trainer. This review is in fact designed to help trainers, coaches and athletes become more familiar with the general psychological principles and their application. It is interesting to note that the psychological tools available and utilized by the elite athlete have not yet been truly implemented or even explored in the real world of youth sports. Our effort is to bridge the gap between sport and exercise psychology research and real life sporting activities. Athletes who are on their way to becoming more productive athletes can further advance their training and performance by developing an understanding of how they think and operate.
About the Author: Ken Taylor, Sport Speed Expert, is a SAQ Pioneer and former Professional Football Player (NFL) and World-class Track Athlete. He played Corner Back and Punt Returner for the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers. During his years at Oregon State University he was an all PAC-10 selection for track and football in 1984. Since retiring from pro football in 1988, he has become a well recognized Sport Speed Specialist. For over 20 years, Ken has coached and trained thousands of athletes from all different sports and corporations including middle schools, high schools, colleges/universities, city leagues, Nike, the FBI, professional NFL, NBA and their kids! His specific training services are for those players who want to improve themselves and to develop their athletic potential through speed, quickness, and athletic skill instruction. His specialty is with athletes that participate in change-of-direction sports such as, soccer, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, and track & field. Ken has worked with more than 5,000 athletes. Executing drills are great but Ken goes deeper by specializing in helping the athlete understand his or her genetic potential through muscle physiology and movement biomechanics. Through education and experience, he understands that it is not only important to be faster and stronger but to maximize your control as well. Ken earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University where he concentrated on "Exercise and Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, and Biomechanical Movement." He has earned many awards including PAC-10 All-Academic Team 1982, 1983, and 1984 and was the PAC-10 Scholar-Athlete Medal Winner for 1984 representing track and football.
