Die Fragestellung lautet dabei: "Wie entstehen psychische Störungen am Arbeitsplatz und welche betrieblichen Handlungsmöglichkeiten gibt es?" Obwohl die Situationen, in denen sich Menschen gestresst fühlen, vielfältig sind, wird im Rahmen dieser Arbeit der Fokus auf die Ursachen und Handlungsperspektiven des aus der Arbeitswelt resultierenden Stressbegriffs gelegt, beginnend mit der Abgrenzung und Definition der Begriffe Stress, Belastung und Beanspruchung. Freizeitstress, Schulstress, Umweltstress - einer Studie der Techniker Krankenkasse aus dem Jahr 2016 zu Folge, fühlen sich die Menschen gestresst. Bei unseren Vorfahren waren Stressimpulse wichtig, um den Menschen eine gesteigerte Gefahrensituation zu vermitteln und damit das Überleben zu gewährleisten. Während die physischen Reaktionen auf Stress damals wie heute gleich geblieben sind, haben sich die Auslöser zur Entstehung verändert. In unserer Gesellschaft wird Stress weniger durch Hunger, Kälte oder Angriffe verursacht, sondern vielmehr durch gestiegenen Wettbewerbsdruck, permanente Erreichbarkeit sowie Termin- und Leistungsdruck. Die Gegenwärtigkeit des Themas wird im aktuellen Gesundheitsreport der TK deutlich, denn für das Jahr 2019 befindet sich der Anteil der psychischen Störungen, die unter anderem aus einer langfristigen Stressbelastung resultieren, auf einem Rekordhoch und nimmt mit 19 % aller Fehlzeiten den Platz vor den Diagnosen Rücken- und Erkältungsbeschwerden ein.
