Jahrhunderts, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zuerst werden die Ereignisse im Golf von Tonkin geschildert und untersucht, da dieser Vorfall maßgeblich für den direkten militärischen Eintritt der USA in den Konflikt war. Anschließend soll die Rede, welche Johnson unmittelbar nach dem Vorfall gab, analysiert und auf Begründungen und Motive hinsichtlich der ersten militärischen Intervention in Vietnam untersucht werden. Im Folgenden soll eine zweite Rede vom April 1965 herangezogen und darauf untersucht werden, wie sich die Begründungen und Motive des Präsidenten geraume Zeit später entwickelten. Zuletzt folgt eine Zusammenfassung der vorgebrachten Ergebnisse. Die Forschung zu diesem Themenkomplex produzierte über die Jahre zahlreiche Abhandlungen von ausgezeichneter Qualität. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit stützt sich hauptsächlich auf die Monographie des damaligen Secretary of Defense, Robert S. McNamara, da diese einen umfassenden und selbstkritischen Rückblick auf wichtige Ereignisse der besagten Zeit zu geben versucht. Durch seine Position gibt dieses Werk wertvolle Informationen von den höchsten politischen Entscheidungsträgern der damaligen Zeit wieder. Eine weitere, hier verwendete Monographie ist die von Gary R. Hess. Er fokussiert sich auf die Entscheidungen und Begründungen von Präsidenten zu Kriegseintritten, was bei dieser Arbeit ebenfalls im Vordergrund stehen soll. Des Weiteren finden Abhandlungen von Bernd Greiner Verwendung, da diese gute Ergebnisse zur Ideologie des Krieges und zur Forschung über die Beteiligten liefern. Sonstige Belege sind dem Werk von Edwin E. Moise entnommen.
