(...) "O objeto de estudo do presente trabalho, que em linhas gerais trata das reflexões de um professor de matemática durante as suas aulas. O que se deseja é investigar evidências de reflexão desse professor quando atua mediando a aprendizagem dos estudantes.A Matemática ainda é uma disciplina que provoca altos níveis de reprovação, contribuindo como nenhuma outra para o fracasso escolar de estudantes da escola básica (BRASIL, 1998). Mas o pior é que muitos alunos concluem esse nível sem construir habilidades matemáticas fundamentais para o exercício da cidadania. Isso, em certa medida, contribui para a exclusão, uma vez que habilidades e competências, sobretudo na resolução de problemas, são altamente necessárias à vida cotidiana, ao mundo do trabalho e aos estudos posteriores.Estudos e pesquisas no âmbito da educação matemática têm mostrado que o ensino dessa área do conhecimento é carente de significados. O tradicional modelo da aula expositiva em que o professor explica, dá exemplos e o aluno ouve e faz exercícios ainda é o mais utilizado. Tal modelo tem levado os alunos a uma aprendizagem pouco significativa. Segundo os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais - PCN (BRASIL, 1998, p.37) essa prática de ensino "tem se mostrado ineficaz, pois a reprodução correta pode ser apenas uma simples indicação de que o aluno aprendeu a reproduzir alguns procedimentos, mas não apreendeu o conteúdo e não sabe utilizá-lo em outros contextos."Alrø e Skvsmose (2006, p.52) afirmam que esse modelo está baseado no paradigma do exercício, que tem grande influência na educação matemática no que diz respeito à organização das aulas, aos padrões de comunicação entre professor e alunos, bem como ao papel que a matemática desenha na sociedade como um todo. Por exemplo, com uma função fiscalizadora (exercícios matemáticos encaixam-se perfeitamente em processos de seleção). Geralmente, exercícios de matemática são preparados por uma autoridade externa à sala de aula. Nem o professor, nem os alunos participam da elaboração dos exercícios.Para esses autores, o paradigma do exercício se caracteriza pela proposição de exercícios "referentes à matemática pura ou a semi-realidades" (ALRØ e SKVSMOSE, 2006, p. 55) e não ao mundo real. Eles acrescentam ainda que as atividades baseadas em situações reais desafiam o ensino tradicional da matemática e rompem com a premissa de que os problemas têm apenas uma resposta correta. Nesse modelo, em geral, não há espaço para que o aluno pense sobre suas próprias respostas e principalmente para que o professor pense e reflita sobre sua prática pedagógica, a fim de promover uma aprendizagem significativa da Matemática. As aulas centradas no paradigma do exercício são organizadas a partir da exposição do professor de algum objeto do conhecimento, seguida de exercícios que são retirados do livro didático ou passados no quadro de giz. Os alunos resolvem esses exercícios que são então corrigidos pelo professor. Nem sempre são confirmados os reais procedimentos dos alunos na resolução dos exercícios e seus erros muitas vezes não são analisados." (...)
