Unternehmen sind einer sich ständig ändernden, komplexen und dynamischen Umwelt ausgesetzt, weshalb Anpassungsfähigkeit und Flexibilität im Unternehmen immer weiter an Bedeutung zunehmen. Um erfolgreich auf dem Markt agieren zu können, ist es eine zwingende Voraussetzung seine eigenen Leistungen zu hinterfragen und nach neuen und besseren Möglichkeiten zu suchen um den Erfolg zu steigern sowie dem heutigen Wettbewerb Stand zu halten. Doch wie gewinnt man einen Wettbewerbsvorteil in solch einer Umwelt? Um solch einen Vorsprung zu erlangen, benötigt ein Unternehmen diverse Informationen über seine Wettbewerber. Das Wissen über die Erfahrung und das Vorhaben der Konkurrenten ist ein entscheidender Faktor und kann zum Vergleich der Stärken und Schwächen zur eigenen Unternehmung verwendet werden. Die wohl bekannteste Wettbewerbs- und Konkurrenzanalyse zur Beschaffung dieser Informationen ist das Benchmarking. Die aktuelle Studie "Management Tools & Trends 2015" von Bain & Company verdeutlicht diesen Trend. Bei der seit 1993 von Bain & Company wiederholt durchgeführten Studie wurden Führungskräfte aus verschiedenen Ländern, Branchen und Unternehmen befragt. Um aufzuzeigen wie Benchmarking funktioniert, werden in der vorliegenden Arbeit die Prozesse des "Benchmarking" genauer
