About the Book

The Kilgore are here! For thousands of light years, this race of beings has been stuck in the hyperlanes terrorizing interstellar travelers whose ships have broken down until the USS Eldridge arrives without any way of moving from one galaxy to another. When the navy in Montauk finds and brings home the ill fated navel experiment from Philadelphia, it arrives with a scout ship attached to her hull looking for a place to land in war torn 1943. They have only one thing on their mind, extermination and invasion.Meanwhile, Susie Dunkins is a 4th grader at Jefferson elementary and today is the day she receives her new recorder. The townspeople dread recorder day because the children just inhale and blow as hard as they can trying to scare adults trying to get through their day. Susie is a good girl but a lover of mischief and walks and blows her little horn causing people to stumble, drop cakes, ice cream cones, and near accidents. When she arrives home from her walk of evil, her mother hears the shrill and sends her back outside towards her fort in the woods. There she plays as loud as she wants without disturbing her mother and the neighbors. The Kilgore scout ship makes the mistake of landing less than 20 feet from Susie's fort, a ground deer blind her dad leaves up all year round. The aliens have waited so long for a new home. Their weapons are dangerous and set to kill. The Secretary of War, not sure of the reports out of the Army Air Corp Base in Loring, about an unidentified flying object out running the turbo prop fighter, sends a retired government agent named Trap who lives in Jefferson. He mobilizes several members of the town leadership to meet this threat. As Trap, Susie, and the aliens are all destined to meet, the alien scout ship opens its doors and the creatures exit. They are about to start shooting when little Susie starts playing her recorder and that's when things begin to get interesting. Little girls are curious and cruel and when she sees the first alien's head swell and blow up, the fun begins. The initial alien threat is put down by a little girl and her new friend.Despite everyone on the scout ship dying, their leader, shoved her egg deep beneath the dirt, and it soon hatches. A tiny little creature wanders around eating field mice and eventually into Susie's hands. Susie recognizes the creature and reaches for her recorder. Just a little blow makes it scream so she puts in plugs into its large ears and plays. The little Kilgore begins to dance.
