About the Book

The Program Evaluation Committee Handbook: From Annual Program Evaluation to Self-Study
Kerrie J. Jordan, MS, C-TAGME
Lisa Kempton, Med
Joseph Stuckelman, BA, MFA
Sylvia Zavatchen
The ACGME mandated the creation of program evaluation committees to evaluate all educational aspects of accredited residency programs through an annual program evaluation. Yet requirements for the program evaluation committee are broad and seemingly vague, making it difficult to put together a proper committee and evaluation. The Program Evaluation Committee Handbook: From Annual Program Evaluation to Self-Study will guide you through building an effective program evaluation committee, mastering the annual program evaluation process, and creating action plans to improve your program.
This book will help you:

  • Launch an effective program evaluation committee
  • Examine and complete the five areas of focus required by the ACGME
  • Conduct the annual program evaluation
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your program and develop an action plan for improvement
  • Understand the broad and loosely defined requirements for the program evaluation committee

About the Author: Kerrie J. Jordan, MS, C-TAGME, is the designated institutional official of the KCU-GME Consortium. She is the former administrative director of graduate medical education (GME) at Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences. In this role, she developed several new osteopathic training programs. Previously, Jordan worked for a children s hospital for eight years and a university hospital for three years. She played a major role in the expansion and development of the GME departments; over the course of her leadership, the children s hospital GME department grew from two employees to 21. She was instrumental in the implementation of a residency management suite software program to track trainees, prepare programs for site visit/institutional review, and develop a systematic approach to IRIS cost reporting. She also played a key role in evaluation and assessment tracking for her former GME programs.
Lisa Kempton, MEd, is the educational program manager/fellowship coordinator for the division of radiology at the Cleveland Clinic. She manages education activities for the diagnostic radiology residency program and five subspecialty fellowship programs, and oversees ACGME accreditation. She is a former radiologic technologist and has taught classes in medical terminology and radiography. Kempton is co-author of the abstract Predictors of Resident Performance on the American Board of Radiology Core Examination (2014).
Joseph Stuckelman, BA, MFA, has more than five years experience as the academic program coordinator for the diagnostic radiology residency program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In 2014, he earned Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (TAGME) certification and was elected to the executive board of the Association of Program Coordinators in Radiology. He is an active member of Cedars-Sinai s Toastmasters, where he has achieved Competent Communicator and Advanced Leader Bronze designations. Stuckelman has presented at local and national GME education conferences. He strives to help coordinators across institutions communicate and collaborate more effectively and to develop innovative approaches to train residents, faculty, and peers. Stuckelman produced and distributed a text-to-animation video to introduce the ACGME s Milestones to radiology faculty and residents at Cedars-Sinai. He helped create the podcast series How Do I Do It? which enhances professional training for coordinators and managers.
Sylvia Zavatchen has served as the program coordinator of the diagnostic radiology residency program at Cleveland Clinic since 2007. In this capacity, she strives to ensure ACGME compliance in a program training 32 residents. An active member of the radiology program coordinator community, she has served on the board of the Association of Program Coordinators in Radiology since 2012. Zavatchen has presented at many local and national conferences educating program coordinators and managers. Her desire to help program coordinators, especially new coordinators, understand their responsibilities and the resources available to them has led to a collaboration on the podcast series How Do I Do It? with co-author Joseph Stuckelman."
