Dieses Staatsprinzip beschreibt das Bestreben, soziale Ungleichheit aufzuheben, sowie Gerechtigkeit zu etablieren. In dem Gleichheitsprinzip von Artikel 3 des Grundgesetzes wird klar formuliert, dass niemand auf Grund seines Geschlechts, seiner Herkunft, Rasse, Sprache oder religiösen Ansicht bevorzugt oder benachteiligt werden darf. Der Gesetzestext beinhaltet dabei lediglich den formalen Grundsatz, die praktische Umsetzung erweist sich in vielen Bereichen als problematisch. Einer dieser Bereiche ist das Thema Bildung. Ergebnisse der letzten PISA-Studie werfen im internationalen Vergleich ein eher trübes Bild auf das deutsche Bildungssystem. Die Bildungsexpansion, die in den 60er Jahren mit dem Ziel einer Neustrukturierung des Bildungssystems betrieben wurde, sollte insbesondere zu mehr Chancengleichheit führen. Dies ist nur in Teilen gelungen. Mehrere soziologische Texte befassen sich mit den Verlierern und Gewinnern der Bildungsexpansion und zeigen auf, welche Schwachstellen das deutsche Bildungssystem immer noch aufweist. Mit dem Ausbau der Schulformen wurde zwar ein erhöhtes Bildungsangebot geschaffen, doch Studien zeigen, dass die Chance auf Bildung stets von äußeren Einflüssen wie dem Geschlecht oder der Ethnie abhängig ist. Besonders umstritten ist das Konzept der Hauptschule, in dem viele Soziologen eine erhöhte Gefahr der sozialen Isolation sehen. In dieser Hausarbeit werden zwei Texte zu dem Thema "Bildungsungleichheiten" untersucht.
