About the Book

Vegetable growing is suitable for small and marginal farmers. A number of vegetables can be grown successfully as inter crop along with trees. Crop suitable for growing at early stages of planting of orchard are potato, okra, tomato, brinjal, sweet potato, peas and onion etc. For later stages crop than can be taken are chilli, palak and ginger. This way a farmer gets more profit from his forest plantation. The Indian subcontinent lies between 8 degree and 37 degree North latitude and from 68 degree to 97 degree East longitude. With the Himalayan ranges in the north, the Deccan Plateau in the south, and with a long seacoast on east, west and south, India enjoys all types of climate from temperate, sub tropical to tropical. There is a rainfall range from the arid, desert areas of Rajasthan to the heaviest rainfall area in the world in the northeastern part. India is in the monsoon belt and gets most of its rains during June to August. Some regions also get the winter rains. The subcontinent has all soil classes from sand to heavy clay. There are four major groups of soil alluvial, black red laterite. Consequent on the varied soil and climatic endowments there are over 20000 plant species occurring in the country.

About the Author
Dr. P. Singh, ex-principal Scientist/Professor (Agronomy) has done his early education from Udai Pratap College, Varanasi and studied at GAC, Kanpur and BAC, Sabour for his B.Sc. Ag and M.S. Ag. (Agron.) degree respectively and obtained his Ph.D respectively and obtained his Ph.d degree from APS University, Rewa. He worked in ICAR project as Principal Scientist along with Professor and Head of Agronomy at RARS and College of Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya. His several research papers have been published in reputed journals and presented in international and national level conferences/symposia/workshops. He has also authored at many books.

S.P. Singh obtained his M.Sc in Botany and Ph.D in Plant Physiology. At present, he is Principal of Gauri Shankar Rai Girls Degree College, Karnai (Balia). Author of many books, his research papers have been published in reputed journals.
