About the Book

I am a Gentile from a strange land. Like Ruth I traveled to Your dwelling through Your Word. By Your grace and Your Son's grace You let me enter Your Word. Was the certain man of Bethlehem in Judah the Levite in Judges 17 the same Levite in Judges 19? Does he have anything to do with judges? Ephrathites must not have anything to do with Levites!Naomi, Mahlon and Chilion, Orpah and Ruth lived in the land of Moab ten years. They were married for ten years.Naomi was bereft, but she did not give up. She arose to go the place she knows, to her family and her God. She knows where she is going and why. She knows it is very different from the land of Moab. She has her daughters-in-law who are widows to go to their mother's houses. She prays that You deal kindly with them as they have dealt with the dead and with her, that You grant that they may find rest and another husband.Naomi knows she will not get married again nor have any more children and if she did that day the age difference would be too much. She is alone and she knows it. She must feel old and alone.Orpah goes back to her people and her gods. She is a Moabitess. She worships idols and different things. Ruth stays with Naomi. Naomi is not alone. You have mercy on her and provide Ruth. Ruth helps her. Ruth must know You. She says Your name. The people of Bethlehem remember Naomi. It has been over ten years. Naomi seems bitter, perhaps lost, or very spiritually tired. Why does she change her name? What does that mean? Is she being sarcastic? She is bitter because Mara means bitter. Have You dealt very bitterly with her? When You take away her husband and her two sons are You dealing bitterly with that poor person? What does this mean? She said she went out full - meaning she had a husband and her two sons, with her. The reason why they left was because of the famine. But then she says You brought her back empty. No husband. No sons, and only one daughter-in-law. Why does she say, "Why do you call her Naomi?" Had You witnessed against her and afflicted her? Is it Your fault? Is it You who does that? Is she blaming You or is she speaking the truth? Why would You go against her? What had she done? Why would you witness against her and afflict her? They must have traveled late winter, early spring. No barley is harvested in the spring in March, the first month of the year. The barley harvest would be in the Fall.Ruth left everything she knew she left her people and her gods. She followed after Naomi to You. Once she left her gods, You took her in. She is a person of interest to You.You have always known her. Do You search all the people to find those who are willing to leave their people and their gods for You? Would Ruth not be killed? Destroyed because she is a Moabitess and not an Israelite? Is it Naomi that protects her. Why is it okay? What is the difference? Ruth is there to help Naomi. Naomi returns to Bethlehem with Ruth.-She is doing the will of God-What does that mean? How does she know what the will of God is? What is her relationship to God?-She is not doing what is right in her own eyes. But what is right in the sight of You?-What is right in Your eyes? Your will? What is Your Will?-Will of God - God's plan and purpose for His creation and for each individual. Only people fully mature in Christ are able to do God's will consistently. Col 4:12; Ps 40:8; 135:6 God's will is always good, acceptable, and perfect. Rom 12:2; John 4:34-suffering for the will of God Rom 8:28; James 1:2-4; 1 Pet 3:17; Is 53:10; Matt 26:39, 42-Ps 143:10; Eph 5:17; Col 1:9; Rom 1:10; Matt 6:12; Matt 12:50; 1 John 2:17-I do like to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart. John 4:34; Ps 37:31-Whatever pleases You, You do, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all the deeps.-And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of my mind.
