About the Book

Ernest is the proud father of three sons and one daughter. He has twelve grandchildren and eleven beautiful great grandchildren. The struggles the family endured and those he experienced throughout his life led him to a life-long passion for writing poetry. It has been said that poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. These are the works of Ernest A. Krueger.
About the Author: Ernest Albert Krueger was born January 6, 1932. Ernest's father was first married to Clara Stahlke. Edward & Clara had 6 children, Clara and two of her children died within days of each other during the influenza epidemic of 1918. Edward met Johanna Emma Whilhelmina Hank while she worked in the hospital caring for Edward's remaining infant son and a daughter who was just a toddler at the time. Ernest Albert Krueger was the 8th of 10 children born to the union of Edward George Krueger and Johanna Hank Krueger. Ernest grew up during the Great Depression. The family owned and operated 'Krueger's Home Made Candies', manufacturers of novelties, chocolates & candies in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Ernest and his siblings were expected to help at the candy store after school each day until 10 p.m. Ernest would carry 100 lb. bags of sugar to a large wooden barrel when his dad couldn't anymore. The children searched for coal along railroad tracks for heat; they went fishing & 'crabbing' in local lakes, rivers and streams for food; they ate lard sandwiches when supplies were scarce - not really realizing they were poor, just thinking everyone lived that way! Ernest's father, Edward, died in 1943 when Ernest was just 11 years old. Johanna continued to work to support her children, and the children worked to support their mother and each other. In addition to the siblings, support came to the family from the spouses that married the older brothers & sisters. Ernest credits one brother-in-law in particular, Daniel Otzelberger, for always being supportive and encouraging - no matter what venture he undertook or where life led him. That strong family bond continues today (and has passed to the next generation). In addition to the 'loves' in his life, Ernest is the proud father of three sons and one daughter. He has 12 grandchildren and 11 beautiful great grandchildren. The struggles the family endured and those he experienced throughout his life led him to a life-long passion for writing poetry. It has been said that poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. We hope you enjoy this collection of his work!
