About the Book

THE PLAN, a five-book novel (quinogy) by R.W. Frazier, is a nineteenth century Western blended with a Sci-Fi vision.... The adventure and charm of the Old West, wrapped in the intrigue and excitement of a unique space opera.... An intricately-plotted story with romance, action, bold scientific concepts, thoughtful social insights, witty popular-fiction references, and nuanced plot twists. Unknowingly, an 1878 prospector's plan for success may trigger an extinction event on Earth... a Yellowstone supervolcano eruption. He is recruiting new friends to help his gold mining efforts, but also making enemies who are intent on stealing his ideas and eliminating him. A hidden organization, bent on protecting humankind, plans to stop the mine work and forestall the extinction disaster. However, another deep-space group, hidden even more thoroughly than the first, intends to foil any plot to eliminate the prospector. That group wants the supervolcano eruption accelerated, and the prospector serves as its needed catalyst. Complicating everything are the plans of other intelligent species, who are sabotaging human worlds. They present humankind with a threat far more dangerous than a supervolcano eruption. This book is the first of five that cover the full story. *********************** *** THE PLAN - Book 1: Possibilities *** The story starts with the possibilities and potential of a systematic search for success. Forlis Granger, a young man with a plan, arrives in western Wyoming in the summer of 1878. He is scientifically savvy and financially fit to spend a year or two prospecting for gold. Now alone in the world, Granger is intent on success for himself and for others with whom he can build relationships. However, an ominous cloud of savage competition lurks in deep space, which may foil many plans. While learning the local landscapes, adjusting to natural dangers, and applying his abilities, the scientific nineteenth century prospector makes friends and foes as he implements his plan in an unfamiliar area. His encounters with others germinate revised personal plans, both for him and for them. The prospector enlists a storekeeper and a cowboy as aides whose advice and talents prove invaluable. Explorations and tests give him growing confidence that his plan will pay off in the Lundys Post area. But Granger also aggravates some locals who become enemies and develop their own plans. The potential fallout from Granger's plan alarms a hidden group of civil servants; they must act to thwart it. These unknown adversaries from afar already have a plan of their own, but the prospector is about to derail it. A deep space Surveillance Pod monitoring Sol-3 initially sees Granger more as a nuisance than a serious threat to the plan it is assigned to protect. However, the Pod intends to eliminate the menace if the local adversaries do not. Senior Officers plan to use this situation as a chance to school the Pod's Juniors.Simple survival and ordinary objectives for individuals intertwine with vital visions for civilizations. The known natural dangers from man and beast are formidable; the other threats are more sinister, but with altruistic motive. Romantic relationships evolve, unexpected peculiarities arise, and opportunities materialize.
