About the Book

Imagine that you had the ability to travel back in time. Where would you go? What would you do? Watch Shakespeare write one of his plays? Hang around with King Arthur? Or would you try and stop your family being murdered? Join recently-orphaned teenager Philip 'Pip' Raven as he tries to come to terms with his family's secret - The Gift - whilst struggling to develop his psychic abilities ... the special powers that can save him in his battles with demons, Jack the Ripper, the Devil and Mr Roberts, the English Lit. teacher. Not to mention prevent a murder. HIS!
About the Author: Born in Derbyshire, England, in 1967, I began writing short stories and poetry at the age of eight or nine, but got the bug 'proper' when I wrote a short play at the age of 11 that won the school drama cup. I joined a local community arts project in 1989 and immediately began writing songs, sketches and even co-writing full-length plays, the highlight being a modern re-working of King Lear ("Cuckoos", 1995). After graduating from Derby University in 1996 (with a 2:1 in Creative Writing), I began writing novels - starting with an idea I had had since 1991 - about a teenage psychic medium (Pip Raven: Spiritwalker). Writing every night after work, I completed the 75,000-word novel in 2003, then immediately began a more adult novel, "How To Have A Nervous Breakdown ... Or Two" (completed 2003), before starting Pip's second tale, "Through the Gates of Hell". Things suddenly went off at another tangent during the summer of 2005 when I saw an advert for a sitcom-writing competition (The Last Laugh) on the BBC website, the challenge being to complete one of six sitcoms started by professional writers. I chose the one began by "Desmonds" creator, Trix Worrell - "Being Dad" - and was amazed to win through to the final, with Trix himself choosing me as his overall winner. All of the judging process was filmed by BBC3 and shown, as "The Last Laugh", in February 2006, with fellow judges Adam Chase (producer of US sitcom "Friends") and Ash Atalla (producer of UK sitcom "The Office") being especially impressed. Hardly surprising, to those who have read "Spiritwalker", to discover that I grew up reading Sherlock Holmes stories and true-murder books, and I have always had a fascination with ghosts, demons, spiritualism and horror in general - not to mention comedy and sarcasm. I am married with three children, in full-time employment, and spend my non-work/family time writing stories/songs and singing and playing guitar in an indie/rock band named On The Brink. I find turning up my amp to 11 is the ultimate stress-reliever - along with the challenge of turning a blank page into an engaging tale. I sincerely hope you enjoy the results.
