About the Book

For fans of small-town mystery comes a Christian fiction novel about five retired friends who are pulled from retirement to confront the sinister shadow world where they become the target of a sex trafficking syndicate.

Heart racing, throat choking, I sit anchored in the backseat of the car - waiting! A stray dog sniffs at a fast-food bag looking for a morsel to eat breaking the eerily silent night. The glow from a nearby parking lot light sheds a foggy orange haze over the deserted street.

Startled by the back door being yanked open, I witness the young girl being shoved into the backseat beside me. With no word of acknowledgement, the driver races off down the crooked San Antonio streets weaving in and out toward the interstate.

Sliding silently in behind us, the big black car prowls like a panther searching for its prey. Its evil, menacing eyes shine through the back car window intending to snatch us up at any moment.

Absolute fear washes over me suddenly raising the hairs on my forearms. I breathe deep, feeling the sweat trickle down my back and yet I tremble with a chill as if someone is walking over my grave.

I glance at the innocent looking girl whose face discloses none of her trauma of being the object of sex trafficking. Terrified, she stares straight ahead with those empty dead eyes.

I want nothing more than to be back home, sitting on my front porch with my four best friends loving on our grandchildren. Instead, I peek over the driver's shoulder at the speedometer at 75 miles per hour, then 80, then 85 and now approaching 90, trying to escape from the relentless evil chasing us.

I feel the car slow as we turn into the drive leading to our home. But then I hear the crunching of the gravel behind us, and I know the panther is crouched, ready to attack.....

Author Interview:
What led you to write a novel about sex trafficking and illegal immigration?

I grew up in South Texas where illegal immigration is commonplace. Through the Women's Crisis Center, I've learned that there's a connection between sex trafficking and illegal immigration. Sex traffickers prey upon young girls with no support system as well as young women who for one reason or another find themselves living on the street. As contemporary Christians, we must seek justice for issues surrounding us.

You also focus on women, why is that?

Strong women in history force changes to social issues and friendship it's complicated but they hold us together during times of crisis like widowhood, Alzheimer's through the stages and caring for the less fortunate such as being courageous enough to rescue sex trafficked girls.

Texas History, the Alamo, and bluebonnets don't seem to fit in the mystery and suspense genre, how did you come to include it in your story?

You're right, but pink bluebonnets symbolize courage in Texas history and that's what these strong women found in themselves. The genealogy tree plot describes a person's heritage but it's important to know that it does not define who we are. We are all special children of God.

Who would enjoy this novel?

Christian women who enjoy a small-town cozy fiction.

You'll want to stay up all night to finish reading it!
