In der Adaptive Research Station, Sakhigopal, Puri, wurde im Kharif 2012 ein Feldversuch durchgeführt, um die Reissorten auf ihre relative Toleranz gegenüber überschwemmten Bedingungen zu prüfen, basierend auf den morphophysio-biochemischen Eigenschaften. Die Sorten Sarala, Hanseswari, Varshadhan, Bankoi, Champa und CR-925-2 wurden im Tiefland gepflanzt, wo die Wassertiefe während des vegetativen und reproduktiven Stadiums zwischen 50 cm und 100 cm lag. Der höchste Ertrag wurde bei Varshadhan im Vergleich zu der anfälligen Sorte Bankoi unter Überschwemmungsbedingungen aufgrund höherer Werte bei der Anzahl der Körner /Pflanze, der Anzahl der reifen Körner /Pflanze und der Anzahl der effektiven Triebe pro Pflanze verzeichnet. 18,20 %, 18,75 % und 14,88 % mehr Abwehrmechanismen durch Enzyme wie Peroxidase, Katalase und SOD wurden bei Varshadhan im Vergleich zu Bankoi unter Anoxie festgestellt, die sich aufgrund der Überschwemmungsbedingungen entwickelte. Auch der Kohlenhydrat-, Zucker- und Saccharosegehalt von Varshadhan wies sowohl vor als auch nach der Überflutung den höchsten Wert unter den Sorten auf. Daraus wurde geschlossen, dass der prozentuale Überlebensanteil von Varshadhan im Vergleich zu den anderen Sorten am höchsten war.
