Dieses Buch will fortgeschrittenen Studenten der Chemie und Physik eine erste Einfiihrung in die Physikalische Chemie der Hochpolymeren geben. Zu diesem Zweck werden die wichtigsten Prinzipien, Gesetze und Methoden dargestellt. Die Auswahl ist nicht einheitlich, sie wird dort etwas breiter, wo nach unserer Ansicht die heute zur Verfiigung stehen den Bucher etwas zu knapp sind. Auch der Rheologie ist mehr Raum gegeben als dies ublich ist. Fur das Verhalten von flussigen und festen Polymeren sind rheologische Gesichtspunkte so wichtig, daB uns eine einigermaBen ausfiihrliche Behandlung auch in einem Einfiihrungsbuch vertretbar erschien. Dagegen wurden auf Kinetik und Statistik der Poly merisation verzichtet, da es uber diese Spezialfragen genugend gute Bucher gibt. Oem Charakter als Einfiihrungsbuch entsprechend wurde auf die Angabe von Originalliteratur verzichtet; wer sich tiefer in das Thema einarbeiten will, wird ohnehin zuniichst zu den im Anhang an gegebenen ausfiihrlicheren Lehr- und Handbuchem greifen, wo er ge nugend Wegweiser zur Originalliteratur findet. Der Autor hofTt, daB dieses Buch dazu beitragen wird, die zentrale Stellung physikalisch chemischer Methoden fiir die Untersuchung der Hochpolymeren ge buhrend herauszustellen.
