El mito "Julitojiménez" es un mito personal noctámbulo, nictálope, que arde cuando el cielo enciende sus estrellas y Neón sus dionisíacos astros. El mito "Julitojiménez" comienza a conocerse en los turbulentos días estudiantiles del poeta. En esa época los que estábamos en la "'Generación Guillo" lanzábamos a la rosa de los vientos su "Ay amor no fumes en la cama". Desde entonces Julito no ha dejado de trajinar por el Globo haciendo '"Peticiones Osadas" entre su espíritu taumatúrgico y la mundologia de su poesía. Hoy, sin salir del frenesí de su savoir-faire y savoir-vivre, Julito publica su primer libro y en él encontramos el largo periplo de sus ebriedades, que nos revelan a un poeta en apasionado soliloquio con las entretelas y meandros del hombre, la mujer, el vino y el erotismno. "Feliz el creador del vino, el hombre idéntico a sí mismo siempre".

Julio no es un borracho de las barras catársicas, que van a los bares con palabras elaboradas cerebralmente a quemar desengaños ante una decuria de ilustrados y un Daniel Santos de rockola. Con un lenguaje coloquial Julio se hace aliado de la "alta noche", la madrugada que culmina en el alba celebrada en el pico de los gallos; y va combinando, en estilo de los rapsodas, en desafío, tabú y prohibiciones, las vitalidades y existencialidades telúricas con las voluptuosidades del poeta: la sintaxis material del mito de la ciudad con el onirismo verbal y adjetivado del mito "Juliojiménez". Este es un poeta despojado de imágenes estilísticas y con desparpajo en la metáfora que arremete desde alegorías o antítesis para expresar en la poesía su historia y en su historia la poesía.

Julio Jímenez ha sido un poeta de la renovación universitaria, surgido hacia los años setenta, en el hervor de una búsqueda inquieta de jóvenes que protestan en la vida y en la poesía; era entonces tiempo de romperlo todo, de asesinar lo académico, de iniciarse en lo desconocido. Era aquél tiempo de "los cronopios contra el sistema". De aquella época queda su testimonio poético, "Ay amor no fumes en la cama", que dio al poeta fama en los juveniles lectores de entonces, y donde la letra de un bolero se confunde con las imágenes surrealistas para narrar una historia de la propia vida del autor. Y este poema siguió viviendo en el exilio de Julio Jiménez en París, a donde fue a buscar lo que nunca encontraría en ninguna parte, es decir, la realización de la felicidad, el orden social exuberante, el sitio soñado por los cronopios. La sección poética que ahora publicamos, comprende poemas escritos en tiempos distintos, pero que guardan todos un desenfado en el lenguaje, los caracteres de un surrealismo tropical, y un rasgo romántico que lo define como un eterno "suspirante", como un poeta que hace de la mujer su búsqueda esencial.
