Periferia o muerte narra la etapa final del viaje al infierno de un exmilitante antifranquista, extoxicómano, expoeta adicto a la ficción al que conocí personalmente cuando trabajaba como educador de calle para el Ayuntamiento de Madrid en la década de los 90.

El diario que aquí se publica no es una crónica de aquellos años, sino relato íntimo, desde la periferia, de uno de sus protagonistas, que podría afirmar con su compañero de generación Xaime Noguerol

Conocí a Arturo Alba-Uribe una noche en la que me encontraba tomando unas copas con unos amigos en un pub de Vallecas. Se aproximó al grupo, nos pidió una monedas. Luego, se me acercó y empezó a contarme de manera muy atropellada la historia de su vida. Le escuchaba absorto. Su historia, pero, sobre todo él, me parecían fascinantes. Muchas de las cosas que dijo entonces no las entendí completamente hasta leer sus escritos. Me estaba contando que no recordaba algunos periodos de su vida, y que por eso estaba escribiendo un diario, cuando cayó desplomado al suelo.


Al día siguiente preguntó por mí en la sección de servicios sociales de la junta de distrito. Le hice la entrevista protocolaria. Más tarde, en la reunión de coordinación decidimos que fuera a un piso de acogida, si se confirmaba que no estaba consumiendo drogas. Para acceder a un piso de acogida era necesario esperar al menos un par de meses. Así que decidí hablar con un voluntario por si le parecía bien alojarlo en su casa hasta entonces. Vicente, que había colaborado otras veces con nosotros en casos parecidos, aceptó.


El 15 de marzo de 1993 encontré en mi buzón un sobre con escritos de Arturo. Era su diario. Arturo Alba-Uribe fue detenido, una semana después, acusado de asesinato.
