El legado pictórico de Antonio Zarco es de sobra conocido y aplaudido tanto por crítica como por público. Sin embargo, nadie esperaba que iba a dejarnos, también, un legado literario tan destacable como su pintura. Pocos sabían que durante toda su vida cultivó la poesía en silencio, convirtiéndola en un ámbito de intimidad, de encuentro y confesión consigo mismo, donde sublimaba en forma de versos sus sentimientos más tormentosos. La poesía como medio de desahogo, de autodescubrimiento o de liberación ha sido una cualidad de largo valorada y patente en lo que algunas corrientes contemporáneas han calificado como "poesía terapéutica". Así, por ejemplo, Lacan en el ámbito del Psicoanálisis, o el propio Jung en el marco de su "Tiefenpsychologie" o "Psicología profunda", proponían la escritura poética a muchos de sus pacientes para que, a través de sus procesos de simbolización, encontraran las claves sentimentales y cognitivas capaces de proporcionarles serenidad y bienestar.Es en este vector de la poesía donde encontramos el fundamento y la explicación de la interesante obra de Antonio Zarco, y sobre todo de su discreta existencia. Una poesía, por otra parte, asombrosamente precisa y cuidada en la forma: la versificación, el ritmo, la musicalidad y las imágenes se traban de una forma bellísima, equilibrada, exacta y líricamente poderosa en cada uno de sus poemas. Podemos decir que Zarco es un poeta virtuoso y ágil con el oficio, sensible y hondo con el sentido.Es emocionante ver -a lo largo de toda la obra literaria de Antonio Zarco- cómo se protege en el consuelo que dan los versos de un desgarro vital que le atormenta desde la juventud hasta su vejez en lo que viene a ser su angustia amorosa, eje vertebral de su poesía, que no obstante deriva en otros temas como la soledad, la amistad, el paso del tiempo o la "muerte en vida".Sin embargo, Zarco amaba estos poemas. Los escribió y reescribió dejando varias versiones de muchos de ellos. Los trabajó con esmero, con dedicación de artista meticuloso que se sabe legítimo creador, y en los últimos años se dedicó a revisarlos con pequeñas anotaciones, tachaduras y correcciones en lo que parecía claramente una voluntad de verlos publicados.Por desgracia, no fue así. Zarco no vio su poesía reunida en un volumen como este, pero sus amigos y familiares han hecho la justicia necesaria a aquel deseo y también a lo que merece estar presente en el panorama de la poesía contemporánea española como un tesoro literario digno de reconocimiento y profusión. A la hora de ordenar los textos, nos hemos decantado por un planteamiento cronológico, agrupando los poemas según el año en que fueron escritos, lo que nos ayuda a comprender el sentido biográfico y personal que tuvo la poesía en la vida del maestro, como un "pequeño rumor universal" -tomando uno de sus versos- que a todos nos arrastra.
