About the Book

Of Pepsi Island Part I: The Story is written in the medium of faction. The authors create a fictional modern situation within a very real contemporary environment, using both real, combined and fully imaginary characters to both illuminate historical facts and construct compelling and plausible possibilities in order to illuminate the present day relevance of the Bible. The protagonist, an arrogant and materialistic, not-so-young corporate executive in Atlanta, Georgia, founders after unexpectedly losing his lucrative job and his corresponding position both on the career ladder and within the social strata. Unable to meet his financial commitments and sustain his extravagant lifestyle, he is faced with the portending humiliation of bankruptcy and even the possibility of imprisonment. Shocked and desperate, he retreats with is young family into an isolated wilderness environment. He seeks solace on the last vestige of land which once had belonged to his grandfather. The old chicken farm, orchard and vineyard had been taken by eminent domain decades ago. It is now all-but-inundated beneath the waters of Lake Sidney Lanier--the reservoir collecting Chattahoochee River waters to supply all of Metro-Atlanta. All that remains of the original farm is a hilltop shaped like a Chinaman's hat. There, only a few tumbled-down chicken houses, scraggily apple trees and untended mascadine grapevines survive. Together with his creative and ever-supportive wife, he lays an imaginative and convoluted red-herring trail to foil his creditors and fool his neighbors. He first establishes a temporary encampment, and then a permanent residence. He relearns forgoten lessons in subsistence trapping, hunting, and fishing as well as woodsmanship, civil engineering, carpentry and masonry. And even more crucial to his recovery, he leans the timeless lessons about God's unfailing grace, true friendship and human interdependency. He finds amazing teachers; he even learns from his comically water-averse mixed breed pitbull and feist terrier, named Pepsi. Most importantly he leans that his life is full of second chances. This book contains both the story as well as a battery of lessons and suggested exercises supporting each chapter. Unlike traditional instructional materials, these practical lessons accommodate visual, auditory and experiential learning style perferences and diverse student interests beyone the 3-Rs. Their format and style make these lessons useful to students who are uninspired by conventional learning environments, including but not limited to students in custodial situations and dyslexic students. Each chapter is supplemented by lessons in English Grammer and Vocabulary, Creative Writing, Analytical Thinking, Historical, Biblical and other Literary Resources, Mathmatics and Sciences, Art and Graphics Projects and Music and Theater Arts.
