Day 555... Or how to live one day over--instructions included.
Dave has got it all: rising star at white-shoe law firm, from all the right schools, checks all the right boxes: biracial, military brat, raised to overachieve by single Asian tiger mom. And it's only a matter of time before he gets Moby-- electric, gorgeous actress-turned-CTO for the high-tech client whose IPO he is leading.
The future is the least of Dave's worries... Until he gets a message from the past-- an e-mail from his estranged father Rob--who died years earlier in an aircraft accident while working as a military contractor in Iraq.
It's just a link to an obscure DB Cooper-style hijacking. With a cryptic request.But it's enough to unlock the secrets--
...What Rob was really working on-- a top-secret, intelligence-gathering technology nicknamed "The Gatsby" that uses particle physics and an obscure algorithm to replay events from the past, every 555 days;
...Why he was really doing it-- to relive the day he lost Ginevra, the love of his life thirty years earlier;
...And Rob's final wish--- to meet her again. For the first time. On Day 555.
And it's enough to unravel Dave's future. As he risks everything to connect with the father he never knew... hacking into top-secret networks, replaying Rob's fatal attempt to go back in time and rescue Ginevra, financing and building his own Gatsby, burning his bridges with Moby.
But when the Feds find out what he's up to, that's when it really hits the fan. The government raids Dave's time-travel factory, starting a frantic chase to Day 555, 712 PM, when Rob will-- or will never---meet Ginevra again for the first time.
"Narrative momentum, wonderful characters, high-tech we can understand... and an instance where someone was actually able to recapture the past."-- Dr. James West, Penn State, The Great Gatsby (2013), starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Pepper's Ghost is the first installment of the Alvadore Cycle, a high-tech saga of romance, regret, and replay, stretching back to medieval England, Scotland, and Norway.
