Excerpt: Stojan Novakovi (Serbian Cyrillic: ), (November 1, 1842 - February 18, 1915) was a Serbian scholar, politician and diplomat, and the foremost Serbian historian of nineteenth century, holding the post of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Serbia on two occasions. He was born in the western Serbian city of abac and died in the southern city of Ni, Serbia's wartime capital. Stojan Novakovi was the first Serbian-educated scholar of the 19th century that obtained international renown. After finishing his secondary education in Belgrade (1860), he studied law and philosophy until 1863 at the Lyceum (Licej) that was eventually transformed into the Great School (Velika kola). In 1865 he became a high school professor in Belgrade. By 1872 he was the librarian of the National Library and curator of the National Museum in Belgrade.
