About the Author: Heidi Kranz, a native of Eastern Prussia, which ceased to exist as a region after almost 800 years, survived the trail to the Soviet-occupied East Germany. There she spent her childhood on an austere farm near the river, which divided Germany. She was sexually abused and beaten by her cruel grandfather; learned to shut down emotionally from the world: a little girl terrified, scared and ashamed. Sometimes she was sitting by the river, daydreaming of the world on the other side, wondering if it had to offer a glamorous life in Paris. Heidi knew already as a child that the world was hers if she conquered it. One day, her mother took her hand and led her to the forbidden land. As a young adult, she set out to break from a past of physical and sexual abuse. She was convinced of the importance of self-reliance and hard work. The former refugee girl, dressed in rags, became a strong woman of action, a freedom-loving rebel, who knew what she did not want. Heidi lived in many countries around the globe, experienced a wide variety of jobs, and traveled through life fearlessly with love and faith in God. She ate frog legs and ant eggs, sipped oysters and pastis, smelled the sea, and touched the sky, without ever looking back. Sometimes she overstepped boundaries and explored the world, without missing out on anything, all in search of the right man.
