English summary: With its programmatic title, this anthology, dedicated to Speyer archaeologist and conservator Professor Dr. Helmut Bernhard on the occasion of his 65th birthday, follows the tradition of geological surveying in the German Palatinate region, dating back from an initiative by Carl Theodor, Elector of Palatinate, in the 18th century: "Palatinus Illustratus." The thirty-five contributions, all containing colored illustrations and depicting the latest research on the subject, clearly point out that cultural heritage preservation continues to be relevant in the Palatine region. Most of the contributions apply specifically to the Palatinate in a narrower or broader way, while some refer to South West Germany in a wider context. General issues, with a special focus on aerial archaeology and similar modern methods of archaeological surveying in the Palatinate, are also covered. Around twenty contributions are devoted to the Roman period, thus constituting the main focus of the investigations. Findings and analyses of metal work as well as different contexts and sites of findings, such as Roman military encampments, villas and other buildings, are discussed. Palatinate castle studies form yet another focus of the anthology. All contributions have been composed by professional experts, amongst them recognized specialists and a number of well-known archaeologists such as the federal state archaeologists of Bavaria and Hesse. Geburtstag gewidmete Sammelband stellt sich mit seinem programmatischen Titel in die Tradition der im 18. Jahrhundert im Auftrag des Pfalzer Kurfursten Carl Theodor in Angriff genommenen Pfalzer Landesaufnahme: "Palatinus Illustratus". Dass die Aufgabe der Denkmalpflege in der Pfalz andauernd fortbesteht, verdeutlichen die aktuellen Forschungsergebnisse in den 35 Beitragen des durchgehend farbig illustrierten Bandes. Der Grossteil der Untersuchungen hat einen engeren oder weiteren Bezug zur Pfalz, andere greifen etwas weiter auf den Kontext in Sudwestdeutschland aus. Allgemeinere Themen, dabei schwerpunktmassig solche zur Luftbildarchaologie und anderen neueren Methoden der archaologischen Prospektion im Pfalzer Raum, werden ebenfalls behandelt. Mit gut 20 Beitragen widmet sich der Hauptteil der Untersuchungen der Romerzeit. Dabei werden sowohl Funde und Analysen von Metallarbeiten prasentiert als auch unterschiedliche Fundkontexte und Anlagen, etwa romische Militarlager, Villen und anderen Bauten analysiert. Ein weiterer Teil beschaftigt sich speziell mit der Burgenforschung in der Pfalz. Alle Beitrage wurden Fachleuten, darunter anerkannte Spezialisten und eine Reihe bekannter Archaologen wie die Landesarchaologen von Bayern und Hessen, verfasst.
