About the Book

Learn how to paint the Ocean Let Nationally known award winning artist Sharon Teal Coray teach you how to paint Fantasy Seascapes. Sharon has developed the easy way to create the vibrant ocean scenes in oils and acrylics. She owned and operated the Shining Feather Art Academy for Women for over 30 years and has been painting since 1970. She has won numerous awards for her Southwestern themed paintings and has been represented in numerous galleries all over the west and southwest. "Since my first seascape book I have been painting what I call "Fantasy' Seascapes. These are very dramatic paintings with lots of intense color. I have used my "artistic license" with these seascapes because I love vibrant colors!" Painting the ocean can be very challenging and rewarding. The ocean is very hard to describe, it is captivating, humbling, refreshing and so very beautiful! It is surely one of God's truest Masterpieces! We as mere humans are ever in awe of its power and beauty! As artists we desire to capture that on canvas! The ocean has been one subject I have loved to paint for years. Having traveled all over the world and visiting many beaches I can honestly say that I have never grown tired of just sitting and watching the waves break. There is a magic quality to the sea; it can be calming with its soft eddies of foam and the quiet lapping on the wet sand or absolutely energizing with the waves rolling and crashing, spewing the foam high into the air. I have enjoyed creating these seascapes and hope you will enjoy painting them. With some practice you will soon be painting some exciting seascapes!"
About the Author: Sharon Teal Coray was born in Salt Lake City and was raised in Emigration Canyon just east of the city. Going to school involved a two hour bus trip, she often spent this time sketching. She loved to draw from an early age. Her father had studied to be a commercial artist but then WW2 started he was called to duty. When he returned there were not a lot of opportunities in Salt Lake for this profession, so he gave it up to support his growing family. He carried a small watercolor set with him and painted scenes of where he was during the war. "I loved to look at these and I decided that I wanted to study art" however Sharon's Dad having no luck in this field discouraged Sharon telling her that it would just be a waste her time to even think of being an artist. This did very little to put out the flames of desire in Sharon to pursue that dream, if anything it just pushed her to accomplish it! In 1970 after her last child was born she decided to get serious about her love of art. She read everything she could on the subject and started painting. She basically taught herself to paint. By 1978 Sharon had developed her skills and was asked to teach her friends and neighbors. She started holding weekly classes in her basement and found that she loved to teach others how to paint. Sharon's works have been featured in "Art of the West" Magazine and she has had her work in numerous galleries all over the southwest. She has been honored to win many awards over the years including "Best of Show" and "People's Choice" She has authored over a dozen books on painting and she invented the Shining Feather Soft Scrub Brush Basin, Shining Feather Soft Glo Acrylic Glazes and the Shining Feather Soft Stroke Brush. She taught over 20 students three times a week in her studio for over 30 years. Sharon's favorite subjects are seascapes, southwestern still-life, portraits and Vintage Cars.
