Nach der Erläuterung vorliegender Theorien zum Lernen in sozialen Systemen, sowie zu dem damit in ursächlichem Zusammenhang stehenden Aspekt der Kommunikation, wird die Möglichkeit durch handlungsorientierte Ansätze Lernprozesse zu initiieren diskutiert und Problemfelder und Grenzen werden aufgezeigt. Im Anschluss daran werden Chancen sowie Kritikpunkte zum Einsatz handlungsorientierter Teamentwicklungskonzepte zusammengefasst und Schlussfolgerungen für die Anwendung in der Praxis gezogen. Outdoor-Training als körper- und bewegungsbezogene Trainingsform bietet Werkzeuge zur Unterstützung in der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung durch körperlich-psychische Erlebnisse. Durch Konfrontation mit Unsicherheitsfaktoren sowie realitätsnahen, neuartigen, intensiven Situationen und Aufgaben sollen echte Gefühle und wahres Verhalten initiiert werden. Durch Reflexion und Aufarbeitung der Erlebnisse haben die TeilnehmerInnen die Möglichkeit aus diesen Erfahrungen zu lernen, wodurch Veränderungen in Wahrnehmung und Verhalten ermöglicht werden. Die Konfrontation mit diesen speziell auf Entwicklungsziele abgestimmten Aufgaben wirkt persönlichkeitsbildend. Zahlreiche Mittel und Methoden werden in der Literatur in "rezeptform" angeboten, kommerzielle Anbieter versprechen sensationelle Erfolge mit ihren Seminarprogrammen. Es werden jedoch weder in erlebnispädagogischer Literatur, noch bei der Anwendung praxisorientierter Outdoor-Konzepte die Grundsätze der Systemtheorie in ausreichendem Maß berücksichtigt.
