About the Book

Hitler was about to invade England in 1940 when the author was evacuated to Australia. Just after he sailed, two other ships carrying child evacuees were sunk by U-boats, many children being lost. Some of the critical events of the war are intertwined with the author's own experiences, including the imminent invasion of Australia by the Japanese in 1942, causing the author to be evacuated again from Melbourne to the Australian bush. A summary of the author's own time in the aviation world immediately after the war is also included, although a separate book is being prepared especially describing the excitement of flying the world's first production jet fighter (available now as a Kindle Book "How Meteors Hit the Ground").
