Esta pergunta sobre Meroz já foi perguntada no Salmo 8. Salmo 8:3: Quando vejo os teus céus, obra dos teus dedos, a lua e as estrelas que preparaste; 8:4 = Que é o homem mortal para que te lembres dele? E o filho do homem, para que o visites? 8:5 = Pois pouco menor o fizeste do que os anjos... E de glória e de honra o coroaste. 8:6 = Fazes com que ele tenha domínio sobre as obras das tuas mãos; tudo pusestes debaixo de seus pés: É fundamental sempre citarmos as fontes corretas sobre todo e qualquer assunto de Torá. A explicação sobre o assunto de Meroz foi de fato proferida pelo Lubavithcer Rebe, em uma sichá no verão de 1969. O Rebe explica, que baseado no Livro de Shoftim (Juízes), capítulo 5, a profetiza Deborah canta uma canção de louvor para D-us por Ele ter ajudado Barack ganhar a batalha contra seu inimigo, Sísera. No verso 20 ela canta: "As estrelas em seus caminhos lutaram contra Sísera". No verso 2 ela continua, "Amaldiçoado seja Meroz, disse o anjo do Senhor, amaldiçoado amargamente sejam seu habitantes, pois eles não vieram para ajudar o Senhor (...) contra os poderosos homens". E quem é Meroz? De acordo com uma opinião do Talmud, trata-se de um planeta (ver Tratado Moed Katan 16a). Desta maneira, os "habitantes de Meroz" indicam vida inteligente em outro planeta. O contexto no qual a referência sobre Meroz é encontrada, faz o Talmud defini-la como um planeta (e não uma cidade vizinha), uma vez que é precedido pelo verso que diz: "as estrelas em seus caminhos lutaram contra Sísera". Portanto, segue que Meroz se refere a um corpo celestial no qual os habitantes não vieram ajudar a Barak. O assunto de livre arbítrio é trazido também pelo Rebe: "Se qualquer forma de vida extraterrestre for descoberta, estas serão formas de vida não humanas. Isto é baseado na crença bíblica que a vida humana, outorgada com o poder do livre arbítrio entre o bem e o mal, foi oferecida desta maneira exclusivamente sobre Adam e Chava na Terra (...). A raça humana é única no sentido em que a ela foi dada o livre arbítrio e a Torá, a palavra e Lei de D-us, através da qual, pode ser conhecido o certo do errado. (...) Toda e qualquer descoberta extraterrestre somente intensificaria nossa responsabilidade de proteger, refinar, e elevar todo o Universo e a totalidade de seus elementos - mineral vegetal, e animal - e assim transformá-los em canais de energia Divina, utilizando-os para viver uma vida melhor e mais virtuosa".
