Mi nombre es Erasmus Cromwell-Smith II. Tal como lo fue mi padre, soy pedagogo y escritor. Este es el cuarto libro de una serie acerca de mi vida familiar.

En el libro El Equilibrista, a solicitud de sus estudiantes, reviví su memorable clase del año 2017 en una universidad de Boston, cuando pensando que estaba desahuciado, narró a sus estudiantes, a través de la poesía, la historia de su vida. Comenzando desde que era solo un niño, creciendo en el pueblo Gales de Hay-on-Wye, rodeado de tiendas de libros antiguos y mentores excéntricos, luego su adolescencia en Oxford hasta su mayoría de edad, cursando estudios de postgrado en Harvard donde se enamoró de mi madre, Victoria Emerson-Lloyd, batuta de la banda de marcha de la prestigiosa institución académica.

En el libro Genialidad escribí acerca de su igualmente magistral clase del año 2018, ayudado por un material adicional que descubrí acerca de las clases de mi padre; ya se había curado milagrosamente de su enfermedad con un avanzado tratamiento medico. Mi padre llevó a sus alumnos a través del tiempo, nuevamente desde el prisma de la poesía, a sesiones inolvidables de tutelaje con anticuarios de libros de Nueva Inglaterra durante el período donde como pareja de jóvenes adultos, perdidamente enamorados el uno del otro, mi madre y mi padre vivieron juntos en Harvard, hasta que ella inexplicablemente desapareció.

En La magia de la vida, reviví su clase del año 2019, la cual fue su última. En ella llevó a sus alumnos nuevamente al pasado a través del manto de la poesía y una serie de revelaciones existenciales que mis padres se hicieron el uno al otro acerca del período de más de cuarenta años durante el cual vivieron separados, hasta el momento en que se reencontraron y se casaron.

Trágicamente, apenas un año después, la hija mayor de mi madre y su esposo murieron en un accidente automovilístico, lo cual causó que me adoptaran a mi, el hijo infante de la pareja fenecida.

Este libro -El Orloj- trata sobre mi clase en el año 2055, donde tal como mi padre lo hiciera, narré a mis estudiantes, también a través de la poesía, una serie de anécdotas que ocurrieron mientras crecía criado por mis padres adoptivos, ambas personas de mediana edad y profesores retirados, quienes volcaron sus corazones por mi bienestar y formación. En esta clase en particular, me sumergí en una serie de viajes al extranjero en los cuales, entre las edades de 12 a 16 años de edad, tuve una serie de "experiencias mágicas" de tipo existencial, en varias ciudades enigmáticas y esplendorosas a la vez, en el continente Europeo.

Finalmente, esta y todas las ocurrencias de mi vida que siguen a continuación están hechas con el objeto de honrar y celebrar la memoria de mis padres adoptivos y la vida inolvidable que compartimos juntos, hasta que ambos fallecieron con pocos meses de diferencia hace una década atrás.
