Con la impresión de la siguiente obra, Orígenes Africanos del Tango: Aportes al Folklore Ríoplatense por Vicente Rossi, publicado originalmente en 1926 bajo el titulo de Cosas de Negros, continuamos con este esfuerzo que hemos emprendido de proteger, preservar y promover el conocimiento y el legado cultural de Nuestra América. Este libro es una reproducción facsimilar del texto original impreso titulado Cosas de Negros por Vicente Rossi. Vicente Rossi había nacido el 23 de marzo de 1871, en Santa Lucía, en el Departamento de Canelones, en el Uruguay. Su padre era genovés y su madre, argentina. En su juventud, trabajó en Montevideo en las redacciones de diversos diarios. En su juventud montevideana trabajó en distintas redacciones de periódicos como El Telégrafo Marítimo, El Día y El Siglo. Orientado hacia la organización de la imprenta, aprendió el oficio de tipógrafo y muy pronto comenzó a identificarse con las técnicas artesanales de los moldes, planas y tintas. A los veintiún años ya era fundador y director de un curioso Almanaque Platense (1892). En esos ámbitos, trabó estrecha amistad con los hermanos Dermidio y Alcides de María, y, con ellos, hacia 1895, fundó en la Capital uruguaya el periódico nativista El Fogón. Tres años después, se marchó a la Argentina, y se instaló en la ciudad de Córdoba. Su primer libro apareció en 1905; reunía una serie de narraciones gauchescas, con el título de Cardos. También escribió para el teatro y, gracias a la estrecha amistad que mantenía con los hermanos Podestá, logró rápidamente que se dieran a conocer dos comedias suyas, en 1913. Enfocó, luego, a los gauchos, en un estudio publicado en 1921. Y en 1926 se orientó a la filología, dando a conocer Cosas de negros, impreso entonces personalmente por él mismo.Con abundante documentación, don Vicente Rossi se acerca al mundo de las festividades ("el negro es el elogio vivo de la síncopa"), tocando aspectos singulares como la religiosidad y extendiéndose sobre su teoría sobre el cadombe (baile de los negros) como precursor de la milonga, así como su valoración del tango como una de las exposiciones fundamentales de la sensibilidad popular e individual rioplatense.
