Denne anden bog i Dīgha Nikāya, Samlingen af Buddhas lange diskurser, samler 17 suttas, som i dette tilfælde ikke svarer til Buddha selv, men er senere kompositioner, der endte med at blive indarbejdet som en kanonisk samling.
Den vigtigste diskurs i denne bog er Mahasatipatthana, den store diskurs om de grundlæggende principper for praksis.
Suttaerne DN 18, DN 19, DN 20, DN 21, DN 23 er falske suttaer. De er markeret med en dobbelt asterisk (**).
De tilbagevendende temaer i de falske suttas med retfærdiggørelse af kvindehad, som f.eks. forklarer, at man skal give afkald på kvindelighed for at blive genfødt som en mand: "Jeg mistede min klæbning til kvindelighed og udviklede maskulinitet".

Men nu er jeg genfødt som et menneske
og jeg lever i himmelsk herlighed blandt devaerne!
Et andet tilbagevendende tema er det mytomani, hvor de forsøger at tilpasse Buddha ved at lade ham fremstå som en prins... i en republik. Eller at han havde den store mands 32 kendetegn, der ville gøre ham til en cirkusfreak. Og der mangler ikke en opremsning af gode og dårlige ting, der ligner en liste over bud, og som slutter med en slags beskyttelsesformular.
Ligesom de foregående og på grund af deres længde er disse ikke taler holdt af Buddha. I dette tilfælde er det lange sutas, der er udformet til at støtte bhikkhusenes missionsarbejde blandt et publikum, der er fremmed for læren.
Ud over disse to suttas skiller DN 24: Om Pāṭikaputta, en morsom fortælling om hån mod en tåbe, sig ud. DN 28: Inspiring Confidence, er en opregning af, hvor godt Buddha forklarer undervisningen og dens overlegenhed i forhold til andre. DN 29: En imponerende diskurs, fortsætter i samme spor.
Særligt bemærkelsesværdige er de to sidste suttaer, Saṅgha's indkaldelse og Overlegen til ti, som er meget nyttige opregninger til at huske de vigtigste punkter i doktrinen.
Mahasatipatthana og de to sidste suttas alene gør denne bog værd at læse.
